সম্প্রতি জাতিসংঘের একদল পর্যবেক্ষক সিরিয়ায় ত্রাণ বিলি করতে গিয়ে দেখেছেন, কোনও মহিলা সেখানে যেতে রাজি হচ্ছেন না। যারা যাচ্ছেন তারা নিজেদের সম্ভ্রম আগেই হারিয়েছেন।

জাতিসংঘের ত্রাণের বিনিময় তাদের কাছে কিছু চাওয়া হচ্ছে না দেখে নিজেরাই অবাক হয়ে গিয়েছেন। জাতিসংঘের ত্রাণ শিবিরে আসা মহিলাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে কর্মকর্তারা জানতে পেরেছেন, অনেকেই আসেন তাদের ভেঙে চুরে যাওয়া আশ্রয় শিবিরে। ত্রাণ দেওয়ার বিনিময়ে সেই সব শিবিরে থাকা মেয়ের সঙ্গে রাত কাটাকে চান। এই প্রস্তাব থেকে বাদ যান না কিশোরীরাও। অনেকেই আবার কয়েকদিনের জন্য বিয়ে করে নিয়ে যান। ভোগ শেষ হলে তালাক নিয়ে ফিরে আসে সেই সব মেয়েরা।

কিন্তু স্বাভাবিক জীবনে ফেরা হয় না। একের পর এক প্রস্তাব আসতে থাকে। এভাবেই চলে জীবন। এই নিয়ে এখন আর তারা বড় বেশি মাথা ঘামান না। সিরিয়ায় থাকতে গেলে এভাবেই বাঁচতে হবে। মেনে নিয়েছেন তারা। ‌‌
