The Disheartening Thing about Steemit
I joined around 2 months ago, and I guess I lost 'steem'...I was excited about this new platform, writers of all kinds sharing, reading, critiquing. Things changed rapidly.
Now, I see bikini pics and food porn all over my feed, it's 'trending'...of course it is, when people understand there is money to be made by catering to a human's base needs.
I am not here to point fingers, but I refuse to post a picture of myself half naked to get people to read my stuff, nor would I expect a post of Uni(yes, it looks like a tongue) to trump excellent writing and/or photography.
I will lure people in with a picture that has little to nothing to do with my writing...maybe that's being ignorant, sex sells, but it isn't what I came here for.
What I write is so much more intimate than sex, than love...it's not Tinder.
I am disappointed in what I see/read here. I wanted more, but I now feel uncomfortable, it's slimy, because we as people are slimy. I really thought this was going to be a space for writers...peeling off our skin, being more than a sexy photo. I think I'm out.
Thank you to my supporters, unfortunately, again, human nature has shown it's true face.
If you leave, then you've given up. What we need is for people like you and I to stick around and post great content. That's the only way to change the system. Not by ignoring it, but by working from the inside out and believing that your work makes a difference.
Great comment! I believe that with sticking with a positive approach, crating original and read-worthy content - and not feeding the spammers - we will eventually drive them out.

Yes sometimes I lose interest in this site too because I feel like after 30 minutes if your post doesnt get recognized then they die after you spend some time making good content ..but you can't give up though!

I can't say I'm not guilty of food porn ... or the half naked selfie (in humor of course).
I do most of my own photography and all of my own writing and I'm doing ok. I cater to the slightly more intellectual crowd, rather than the basal.
Steemit is an opportunity for many paths. Follow people who follow your path and it will be enjoyable again.

STOPYou'll never see my dong here. I try to avoid what's trending and follow people who I really enjoy reading. That way, my feed is full of a plethora of artists I appreciate. Occasionally they may rested something I'm not a fan of, but you just gotta keep scrolling. Search for what you want to find. Write here for you, fuck what everybody else is doing. Everybody has different reasons they are here, don't let their garbage make you see your writing for anything less then it is. Brilliant. I'll always offer my two cents, and maybe one day three, it's disheartening to start at the bottom, but you can only go up.
I have to admit I am guilty of food porn but that's what my content is about. Food and Travel. That's what I write about on other social media platforms too because it's my passion, food and travel blogging. However what I don't understand is when I try to read people's content and there is literally one picture copied from the internet with one sentence and it has hundreds of upvotes and $. I mean I know I am on here create and express with an opportunity to make $ but sometimes it can be disheartening as a new Steemian swimming with an ocean full of whales. Try to keep your head up and keep steeming.
Thank you ,I know I said 'food porn' but I meant it in terms of a stock photo, and someone's diatribe about 'good food'. Photography is akin to painting...brilliant

If the Hot and Trending pages aren't for you (I rarely find something on there that blows me away), then scroll through the New page. It's a lot of noise, I get it, but there are some diamonds in the rough also!
