RE: The Importance of Forgiveness

in #life7 years ago

One thing for sure is that it is not easy to forgive. Lets not trivialize that. In deed, it is easier said than done.

But one question which i have always pondered on, regarding this question of forgiveness, is:

  1. If a person who has wronged me does not ask for my forgiveness, what is the point in me forgiving them?
  2. And if i tell myself that i have forgiven them yet they have not asked for it, is not my 'forgiveness' meaningless?
  3. is it possible that someone can refuse your forgiveness? Does it make it less meaningful?

Either way, i appreciate the value of forgiveness, and Mahatma Gandhi put it all so well.

The weak can never forgive, forgiveness is the attribute of the strong

Hi, @mirrors, let me answer your questions:

  1. The point in you forgiving him is that it helps YOU. In the case you are describing it will only help you to feel better with that person.

  2. Nope, it just means that you gave that person another opportunity and you forgot about the bad situation which happened to you with him/her.

  3. I think that if a person did something which hurt you, then refusing your forgiveness is impossible.

Thanks for the interest and for the awesome quote you gave! :)

Thanks for your response, @lazariko12. Forgiveness is a very sensitive issue, but it is one ideal we all do well to aspire toward.
