Mens - Choosing a Hairstyle That Is Right For You?steemCreated with Sketch.

@Mens

Gentlemen,
Today we’ll be talking about your hairstyle. There’s practically millions of hairstyles out there. So how in the world do we pick one that suits you specifically? Well gentlemen, that’s why I’m here.

There are many factors when it comes into picking a hairstyle, but ultimately, it comes down to three things. Your face shape, hair texture and hair line. Its all about balancing and contrasting your face. If you go and look up face shapes, you’ll probably find a tonne of different shapes. However, in the end, we can narrow them down into these 4 categories, oval, square, round or triangular. Identify which one you are first.

@Mens

Alright gentlemen, lets keep it short and simple.

Oval Face Shape

It's going to sound a little bad to the other face shapes, but, if you have an oval face, almost any hair style will look good on you. There is just one exception. That is... Bangs. And you might be wondering, why not bangs? This is because those bangs will cover up your forehead and give you a more round face shape.

Square Face Shape

You want to avoid angular looking hairstyles with a square face shape. It will make your head look long and rectangular like. If you have this structured shape, you want to avoid structured hairstyles.

@Mens

Round Face Shape

If you have a round face, you do not want to go with any rounded hair style. It's all about balance and contrast. Therefore, you should be aiming for something more angular. When I say angular I mean something where its a bit tight on the sides and back.

@Mens

Triangular Face Shape

Again, triangular face shapes, you can and rock almost any styles. You could even go with some longer hair options if you wanted.

Alright gentlemen, the next thing we look for is your hair texture. Is your hair thin or thick. Is it wavey, curly or straight? So think about what your hair texture, really is. Final step, is looking at your hairline. Is it receding in the front? Is it squared off or do you have a widows peak?

You're probably thinking, thanks @mens, but you didn't even tell me what haircut I should get next time. Well here's the hard part. You need to find a celebrity who has your face shape, hair texture and hairline. So be on the look out. Then Google, will be your best friend. Google some picture of them and see what hair styles they are currently rocking. Remember, hairstyles are like clothing. Sometimes they are in the trends, sometimes they aren't. You don't want to keep the same hairstyle for years on end.

Here's a fun little experiment you can try next time you get a haircut.

  1. You should find three hairstyles of 3 different lengths, long, medium and short. Examples:

  2. Go to your barbershop/saloon and show them the picture of the longest haircut you've picked. And gentlemen, don't be afraid to show them. Bring it on your phone, print it out, but just bring it.

  3. Get the cut. If you don't like it, no problem. Just go back to the barber and get the medium length hair cut. If you don't like that, then go back to the barber and get the shortest haircut you've picked out.

Gentlemen, I hope to be seeing you with some new fresh looking cuts.
