कल की ज्ञान-अज्ञान की बातों से आगे बढ़ते है और इसे थोडा विस्तृत समझने का प्रयत्न करते है ।

इतना ही नहीं, जब तक आत्मा के शुद्ध स्वरूप का जीव को निश्चय नहीं होता अर्थात् स्वरूप की वास्तविक प्रतीति नहीं होती तब तक, यह आत्मनिश्चय पूर्ण रूप से दृढ़ भी होना चाहिए अन्यथा प्राणी मिश्र मोह में फंसकर मध्य में ही लटकता रहेगा । उसे आगे बढ़ने का मार्ग और शक्ति प्राप्त नहीं हो सकेगी । मनुष्य को आगे बढ़ने से रोकने में अहंकार भी बहुत बड़ा हिस्सा अदा करता है । यह अहंकार तप का भी बहुत बड़ा शत्रु है । जप का तो यह सत्यानाश ही कर देता है । अहंकारी व्यक्ति तत्त्व चर्चा में ही अटककर रह जाता है, प्रत्याख्यान की ओर नहीं बढ़ पाता ।

अत: उस सारी अटकन, भटकन और लटकन से बचकर ज्ञानी पुरुष को चाहिए कि वह संसार दे समस्त विषयों को दुःख रूप समझकर इनसे बचकर चले ।

ज्ञान तभी सच्चा ज्ञान कहला सकता है जबकि उसमें सब जीवों का दुःख खटके । संसार के विषय भयंकर लगें । ह्रदय में संवेग का उदय हो । वैराग्य सहज हो जाए । जब ऐसी स्थिति बने तभी समझना चाहिए कि हमारा ज्ञान सम्यगज्ञान है ।

“होई विवेक मोह भ्रम भागा ।
तब रघुनाथ चरण अनुरागा ।।”

मोह का भ्रम दूर होने पर ही विवेक होता है और विवेक का उदय होने पर ही ‘आत्मरति’ उत्पन्न होती है । ऐसा होने पर सभी ज्ञान सम्यग्ज्ञान हो जाते हैं । भले ही लौकिक दृष्टि से वह असत्यवचन योग ही क्यों न हो ।

जिस प्रकार ‘एक’ के बिना सारे शून्य व्यर्थ होते है, उसी प्रकार सम्यग्दर्शन के बिना सभी ज्ञान अज्ञान है । जिस प्रकार सुहाग चिन्ह के बिना पतिव्रता की शोभा नहीं अथवा नाक बिना श्रृंगार की शोभा नहीं, उसी प्रकार सम्यग्दर्शन के बिना ज्ञानावरणीय कर्म का ऊँचें से ऊँचा क्षमोपशम भी अज्ञान में ही सम्मिलित है ।

ज्ञान, विज्ञान, अज्ञान, मिथ्याज्ञान और सम्यग्ज्ञान का मर्म समझकर उनका यथार्थ उपयोग किया जा सकता है । इसके बिना आत्मार्थ और परमार्थ की प्रगति नहीं हो सकती । जो व्यक्ति इस मर्म को समझे बिना प्रवृति करेगा उसकी सारी प्रवृत्तियां स्वार्थ और परार्थ के बीच में भटकती रहेंगी ।

अर्थात् पाप और आश्रव ही त्यागने योग्य हैं, पुण्य नहीं । पुण्य तो मोक्ष मिलते ही स्वयमेव छूट जाता है । उसे पहले छोड़ देना समुंद्र के बीच नौका को डुबो देना है । पुण्य छोड़ने वाला पाप ही तो करेगा ? घाव के अच्छे होने पर जो काली-काली चमड़ी आ जाती है वह तो स्वस्थता का चिन्ह है, उसको हाथ से नहीं निकालना चाहिए । घाव भरने पर वह चमड़ी स्वयं छूट जाएगी । औषधि स्वयं स्वस्थता नहीं है, किन्तु वह स्वास्थ्य के लिए आवश्यक है । इसी प्रकार पुण्य जीव का स्वभाव नहीं है, पर इसे स्वभाव में सहायक तत्त्व माना जाता है । इसके बिना स्वभाव धर्म व्यक्त कैसे होगा । अत: पुण्य स्वभाव न होते हुए भी प्रभाव के लिए अनिवार्य है ।

इसी दृष्टि से प्राप्त किया गया सब तत्त्वों का विवेक ही अज्ञान को ज्ञान बताता है तथा विज्ञान मिथ्याज्ञान को दूर कर सम्यग्ज्ञान की प्रतिभा व्यक्त करते हुए धीरे-धीरे केवलज्ञान तक पहुंच जाता है । यही हमारा अन्तिम और चरम लक्ष्य है जो सीधा सिद्धि तक पहुंचा देता है ।
