The world's largest airport - Beijing's new airport
The new airport in Beijing, the largest airport in the world, is scheduled to open in 2019. The airport, costing 80 billion yuan, was designed as a huge flower shape in Daxing District, in southern Beijing.
The new airport in Beijing will provide passengers with a more convenient transfer service and the largest passenger throughput is expected to reach 100 million.
The design of the new airport is a huge flower. The main terminal is a "six-finger" radial structure with both international and domestic flights.
Approximately 1.6 million cubic meters of concrete and 52,000 tons of steel were used to construct the airport skeleton. The new airport covers an area of 47 square kilometers.
Upon completion, the new airport terminal will be one of the largest closed spaces in the world with an area of 313,000 square meters.
Beijing's new airport terminal area of 1.4 million square meters, the core area of 600,000 square meters, is the world's largest single terminal.
