Boys Weekend
Last weekend was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. My wife went out of town to have a girls weekend with her college roommates and therefore I was solo-parenting. I had been extremely anxious about this, but I had no idea how rewarding it would be to spend time with my kids. It kept my mind occupied at a time when I felt like an idol mind led to me becoming more depressed and it also gave me a great opportunity to bond with my kids in a way that simply isn't available when Mom is around. We actually built it up for the previous week and I had a running joke that we were competing against the girls weekend with our "boys weekend," to see who would have more fun.
I made a point of making my kids feel like that weekend was their opportunity to do whatever they wanted and tried to plan as many fun outings as I could manage.
Luckily, the kids' monthly craft kit, which was a birthday gift to them from my mother, arrived during the weekend so we had some activities to do at home that kept them off the screens.
And best of all from my perspective, we made all Italian meals (my and the boys' favorite food), which the boys ate very healthy servings of.
I won't lie, there were a few tense moments and I did lose my patience with my boys on a couple occasions (Don't tell mom), but I think we all found the weekend to be enjoyable. One of the best things is hearing the boys talk about how they want a repeat, my eldest son told his mom yesterday that she could go and play with her friends again so that we could have another boys weekend!
so cute!!
The Chihuahua was named for the state in northwestern Mexico where they were discovered.
