The Bow Thruster
This week I will be spending some time on the boat. Firstly, I am very curious to see all the improvements that have been made by the yard in the last three months, secondly, I will be working on getting her ready for the 2020 season which, for me, starting in late March.
One new feature is the bow thruster which is used to maneuver the bow perpendicular to the long axis of the boat to starboard (right) or port (left). Thirty years pleasure sailboats did not have bow thrusters and the maneuvers were carried out using lines and crew instead. These days the crews tend to be smaller (sometimes one) and so a bow thruster comes in handy when navigating in small marinas and/or under strong winds.
The first picture shows the bow (boat is on a trailer) before the thruster was installed.
Below we see how a scary (!) hole has been cut into the hull and the tunnel is soldered in (the bow is to the right):
Here we see the final tunnnel with the prop:
The prop is driven by an electric motor (the tunel can be seen from the inside below the motor):
The motor needs high power but not for very long. Therefore a set of two starter batteries are the ideal choice.
And in this instructional video you see the bow thruster in operation.
That is it for today.
BTW: Which better categories than life and sailing could I have chosen for this post?
How cool you are going to use your boat 🌊🌊🌊
You can use the tags: lifestyle, palnet, neoxian, creativecoin...
with these categories you can also earn token and in them you can publish what you want ... well creativecoin is about creativity, and it seems to me that in this post there is some creativity. You could also use the tag "oc"
Thank you :-), I will use all or some of those tags in future posts.
To the order. You can ask me whenever you need help with the tags or format of your publication. 😉
Nice to see the new things which I did not know before. Have a good time on the boat :-)
Could also use photography and Oc as well since it's exclusive captures I've never seen something like this in the rudiment of sailing and boats and stuff
I never knew about bow thrusters.
I hope you are keeping well and enjoying life Marius.
Thank you. You know, I only post the good stuff 😎 but it still feels all over the place. Life is good.
My guess is hive-174578, along withe the other two ones. I am curious to see it on water.
Thank you. I will look at this mysterious
174578
tag. In one of your last posts you mentioned that you were a "random poster". I very much feel like that, too :-) - I feel like this is quite a stretch for my followers...I am actually and my blog is my proof. You will see that hive-174578 is quite random and that's why I use it a lot.
Hi @mariusfebruary, we hope you are doing well. You can always use "blog or dblog" category. Lifestyle is another one.
Great post and Have a nice day!

From what one can see this is an impressive boat.
A tag you could use in addition is the #build-it; it's a tribe, and quite an interesting one!
It's cool to learn some details about sail boat too aside from seeing it at far. As for the category, I would suggest #learning & #lifestyle
