What are the main indications of a pediatrician to a mother with her newborn?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Once the baby is stable, the mother is in recovery, on the 2nd or 3rd postpartum day, the ambulatory indications that the mother must have are the following:

  • Regarding food, it should be exclusively breastfeeding at free demand. It is intended that the baby consume enough milk so that he feels satisfied for 3 to 4 hours so he can sleep.
The average is 10 to 15 minutes per breast, until empty, remembering that upon awakening, you must start the breastfeeding for the last breast you used. (I mean that, if the last breast for which the baby drank milk was the right one, when he suckles again, he should start with the right one)

  • Prevent the baby from swallowing air and suckling milk for long periods to prevent colic, fullness, upset stomach. It is also important the baby's good position during breastfeeding and post-lactation that allows him to expel the swallowed air.

  • The scar of the umbilical cord should be cleaned with alcohol every time the diaper is changed and to observe that it dries little by little with the days.

  • The first complete bathroom of the baby can be performed 2 to 3 days after the umbilical cord falls. Before, only a partial bath should be done.
