First pediatric control of the newborn. What to expect?
Among the changes we have:
• Will have regained his weight at birth or approach it.
• That it has increased between 0.5 and 1 cm in size.
• The size of the head stays the same. It may be smaller in size than when it is born, because, when it is born, small physiological and totally normal lesions on its head may occur, it becomes edematous, the bones move because they are malleable, but then return to their normal anatomical location and reduce the edema.
• The umbilical codon may have fallen or is about to fall.
• It may present peeling in areas of the skin that needs hydration and lubrication.
• May have slight jaundice (yellowish color on the skin, eyes, oral mucosa) which is normal, but you should do laboratory tests to control bilirubin.
• May also have reddish coloration on the skin, especially in places with greater sweating due to overcoating.
• Finally, may have small papules or 'nuggets' on the skin that may require an allergic reaction to the bath soap or soap on the baby's clothing. Therefore, it is recommended to bathe the baby only with warm water and change the soap on the clothes.
In case of contracting another sign or symptom in the newborn at home, consult your trusted pediatrician.
