Hello! My name is Amy, I always felt like a black sheep, a loser.

By the time I was 23, I was divorced and pregnant with the baby of a guy I had just met. We got married and had two more kids, but I was more interested in partying than being an adult. I definitely wasn’t happy.

By 30, I had traded the highs of partying for the highs of material success. I became a financial adviser, bought a big house and a Lexus but I was overwhelmed by stress.

After losing one of my biggest accounts, we had to file bankruptcy and foreclose on our house. Our cars were pulled from our driveway in the middle of the night. I had failed my family. Something had to change. We sold everything and left.

Today I am 39, and love my life. I found my happiness, and my community, by opening my mind and immersing myself in the rich diversity of humanity. I now live part time in both Vermont and Uganda, where I work with the Malayaka House orphanage.

My children have been all over the world. We’ve met refugees, squatters, Africans, Atheists, Christian pastors, the ultra wealthy, the ultra poor, trans people, Communists, people with disabilities, elderly activists, and Arabs.

‘Expand Your Bubble’, is my first book and it’s a collection of interviews with those very people who have changed my perspective, and thus, my life.

There are a million solutions to every problem life throws at us. Those solutions are easier to find, and life is more enjoyable, when we interact with people from all walks of life.
