Encouraging with an E
What comes to your mind when i say Encouraging with an E.... use your mind, give it a little exercise. I will share in the end what that E is!
I'm not here to teach you anything, I'm here to share my thoughts and what I feel encouraging really is, its not something you can write and write using some powerful words and it will cause an impact, well partly it does, but not with everyone. We are here to motivate, to create an impact and to encourage people to do something with their lives.
you only live once and you have to make most out of this life.
I will share with you a simple yet effective process of Encouragement which from my point of view is that simple that anyone can learn and deliver in their daily matters.
First of all there is motivation, now motivation can be of two types:
- Intrinsic
- Extrinsic
Intrinsic motivation is related to the inner motivation of a person that he or she feels motivated from inside like feeling honorable, feeling accepted, feeling powerful, feeling socially active and feeling independent etc. and extrinsic motivation is related to the external motivation that is being awarded employee of the month, appraisals and bonuses etc. both are equally important for everyone.
when we are motivating other people or inspiring other people, we need to keep this in our minds that they are motivated in two ways, first you need to make them feel good about themselves, that what they are contributing in the society is worthy and then you need to award them with something. I really liked the idea by Blake Howard, that he used a little question and answering session with the audience and he made an award with a soda bottle covered with paper and the title written on it. He gave it to the winner. I liked it because it made the entire audience to focus and hear what he has to say and it was easy to absorb the things he was trying to teach.
I shared with you how to target the people in terms of motivation, next are the words! use powerful words. Words have power, your words are powerful, words can make or break a person, words can change the way a person thinks. For instance, my 3 year old son was scribbling on the walls, i shouted,"don't draw on the walls, you bad boy." he drew again and next time he stared at me while drawing. My words hurt his ego, he became more reluctant to my orders. Then I sat down in front of him and said, "don't draw son, you are a big boy now," he didn't draw to this date because I took care of his ego, that he liked being called a big boy and responsible. We need to change our words and actions if we want to bring a change in someone's life.
You know how to motivate your audience, you have prepared some powerful words to create an impact, now you want to create a magic, a magic that will leave the entire crowd in wonders about what just happened and they will learn, i guarantee you they will learn.
What is the magic? You have often heard a principal saying my that teacher is a magician, when he speaks others listen because he has that magic. what will you say if I tell you that the magic can be taught. If you want to be like that person who creates the magic, look at him see how he talks, how he moves, how he moves his hand and the most important thing how he uses his tone of voice. Go to all the places where this magic is happening and look at the way these people convey their message.
Final note: If you have that spark in you that you can make your point and convince people, my humble request to you is to get out there because we need people like you in the educational sector.
That E, i hope you have figured out till now, that E is Everyone!
Cheers!
Myra
