I CAN'T COMPREHEND... ๐๐๐
Hey friends,
I always have encouraged my children to readโฆ
But letโs be honest, how many teenagers do you see with a book in their hands?
They keep their hands on their phones 24/7!
So finding out my girl was reading a book (without me telling her anything) I thought it was a big deal!
We all have our own reading preferences right?
So, when I got close to her I found out she was reading a book, listening music, texting a friend, and browsing on her laptop ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
I canโt comprehend thatโฆ
I guess Iโm โold fashionโ like she said since I prefer reading in a quiet environment without distractions.
What do you think about this?
BTW this is what I'm reading now...๐๐๐
I highly recommended!
I don't give a F*ck!!!
Oh I just had to start out with that! ๐๐๐
But honestly I hear people say they can multi-task, which means the can focus on many different things at one time, when in fact what they are doing is focusing on one thing at a time, so it's not "multi-tasking" but doing many different things, one thing at at time, but in today's warped vocabulary, when
"Bad =cool" and "you da shit= your good"
That may be true , if multi tasking means you cannot focus on one thing.
I'm old school also and enjoy a quite environment to think, but also was in the military where people believe you can think under pressure when in fact you go into a reactive mode in which you've trained for.
Same as anything in life, one engages without thinking by what they have been trained.
I'm no doctor Phil here, and just the fact she is reading is awesome , kids react to what they see, and in today's world, they see us grown ups, doing the same thing, trying to read our emails, our phone goes off, we try to respond to the caller while answering an email, add getting the kids ready for school!! Lol
When I sit back and I think about it, I like listening to music while i work, it's relaxing at times, and I can still focus on what I'm doing.
She may be hearing it but tuned out and focusing on what's she's reading, and she may be communicating with someone about what she's reading and vice versa, useung the laptop for emails!!! Lol
Anyway she's reading! And that's a good thing๐
It sure is a different world when I grew up, playing outside and enjoying the summer.
She told me she has a specific playlist on her spotify to listen while reading because it helps her to concentrate.
A little push from you will not do them any harm. They should learn from example but if you insist that they read something, it might help. For me it was a culture growing up, in nursery school, primary all the way to high school. I lost a bit of that reading bug in campus. I loved John Grisham novels and the Harry potter series. I read those books a couple of times over.
Thanks. I just encourage them to read. I don't interfere on what they read. She has her own books and novels.
You are right about that @lulita.
It's very good that she decided to read on her own. It will expand her horizons. However, i don't like to do anything else when i read so i don't even listen to music. I can't concentrate and i can visual things better that way.
I'm exactly like that. When reading I want to be in a quiet place.
I am sure she feels (" I canโt comprehend that") the same about your ways.
...but yes it is great that she is finding her own way.
Yes, as long as she reads...LOL
I've been making sure that my kids see me reading once in a while. I think it makes a big difference, also reading to them every night and sometimes during the day.
Yes, Children do what the parents do, not what the parents say to them...

Got you! ๐๐๐
I have seen that book very often recently. I'm going to have to pick it up on Amazon!
Great book!
I actually can understand this! I too find myself multitask reading lol When I'm having a lazy relaxing day I can spend hours doing just this.... in a hammock! :D Good for her for pulling out a book!
Thanks. It doesn't matter "her way" as long as she reads! LOL
