The character who says all this was referring to walls that keep out the natural things of the world... like germs, hence the point about being "sterile". And because the character is talking to the Shapeshifting Dragon named Logohos, his point is about how inappropriate his actions are for a good relationship with Logohos despite his desire to have that relationship.
