RE: How about carring Your own house on Your Back ?

in #life5 years ago (edited)

This is very interesting in many ways! The obvious message of always feeling at home, which is emphasised in our collective consciousness by the saying 'There's no place like home', is the literal meaning we can all get from this piece, but I think there is more to it than that!

Two questions arose in my mind when I was reading this poem -

What is the thing we call home? & What does it truly mean to feel at home?

Since poetry is subjective and the real meaning lies beyond the artists' meaning and reason - which can be called the 'objective subjectivity' since it is, in a way, the most valid subjectivity - I won't try to impose my views and will leave it uncorrupted for each reader to interpret him/herself. What I will comment on is the final line of the first stanza, which I find to be very strong.

'He didn't find his peace anywhere.' - Since the snail's home was with him all along, this anywhere (or everywhere) does not include his home - it cannot. From this simple statement we can draw many conclusions, the main one being that peace and all that comes with can only be found 'at home.' - wherever that may be.

Thank you for sharing this striking piece! It's really thought-provoking with its simplicity encompassing such complexity!

If you have some spare time and are interested, I invite you over to my blog - there, you may (or may not) find some thing you like in my vast collection of poetry and art.

Thanks once again!
