Popularity of bamboo handicrafts is increasing

At one time Narsingdi district was very rich and traditionally in handicrafts. There were a number of artisans who were involved in this profession. The quality of the products produced by them was very good. But because of the attractive design of plastic materials available in the market, the demand for bamboo handicrafts decreased dramatically.
The traditional handicraft is being awakened again in Narsingdi. Realizing the harmful effects of the use of synthetic materials, ordinary people are now more interested in using bamboo and cane handicrafts than those items.
Basically, artisans living in the village are now using bamboo and cane to create various types of handicrafts. Many of these people have become self-reliant now in this profession.
A significant number of unemployed youth, women and widows also joined the profession. In this work, they have proved that cessation of poverty and economic activity in rural areas is a useful profession. Private sector entrepreneurs are also producing more demand and popular handicrafts.
