Welcome To The Cat City

in #life7 years ago

The city of Kuching, located in Malaysia, is full of cats. They are on the sidewalk, on the road signs, in the parks and on the roofs.

But unlike other cities, most of Kuching's cat's population is in the form of statues and sculptures. The cattery is derived from the name of the city. Kuching is considered to be a derivative of a Malay word that means a cat, but it is equally likely to come from the Chinese word for a port.

Others believe the name comes from a fruit called "mata kuching", which grows in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Local history also suggests that the city is named after a small stream called Sungai Kuching or the Cat River in English that passes through the city. "

About 200 years ago, Sarawak was part of the Brunei Sultanate, but as a reward for suppressing a rebellion, it was handed over to British adventurer James Brook, who runs her as her personal kingdom.

The most famous writing in the city is the Cat Museum, containing over 4 000 artifacts, including pictures and monuments associated with cats. The exhibits include a mummified cat from ancient Egypt, a gallery of cat commercials, and the five wild cat species found in Borneo.

Another legend tells that in the 1950s people in Borneo were dying of malaria. Authorities are distributing insecticide, which, while helping mosquitoes, kills a large number of cats on the island.
