Must Visit Tokyo Attraction – Tokyo Skytree

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Tokyo Skytree is one of Tokyo’s must visit landmarks.

It is the tallest structure in Japan that was built in 2012, this year it is celebrating it’s 5th year anniversary.  This tower is also the primary television and radio broadcast site for Kanto region.

The easiest way to travel in Tokyo is by their convenient but complex subway system…hahaaa how to navigate the subway requires a post itself…

Anyway…we arrived by the subway, and we waited till a weekday to go to avoid the big crowd…since it is one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo.

It was our 3rd time visiting the Tokyo Skytree, and we still didn’t make it to the observation deck  lol, but there was so much to do and see, before we share our photos let us explore the Tokyo Skytree together.

The tower is 634 meters tall, you can go up to the floor 450 (450 meters above) to experience walking in the sky.

From floor 350 (350 meters above) you will see a wide-open 360º view of the Tokyo city skyline.  There are also Cafe and Restaurant just below this level.  Lower floors have lots have interesting gift shops.  That is where we spent most of our time…so we definitely need to go back to visit the observation deck.

When we arrived, we found cherry blossom trees around the Skytree, that was a pleasant surprise, since the season was already over…

We arrived around lunch time, so first thing we did was looking for food to satisfy our stomach.  We found few recommended restaurants nearby, but they all had either a long lineup or they were fully booked for the day.

Finally we found this restaurant that has very nice views of the Tokyo city skyline.

Restaurant has an open kitchen.

I ordered their lunch special: sea urchin chirashi sushi (bowl of rice with mixed sashimi on top).

JJ ordered grilled eels with rice.  Grilled eels are glazed with a sweetened soy sauce, and grilled over a charcoal fire..yummy!!!

After lunch we went to explore the Tokyo Skytree gift shops.

Toilet paper printed with the Tokyo Skytree …hahaaa.

Japanese cartoon characters.

Pen Pineapple Apple Pen guy also has official goods on sale there…

As I posted this post, his popular video has over 120,000,000 views on youtube:

Once we finished visiting all the gift shops, we visited the festival on the ground level of the tower…Japanese fish shaped flags / carp windsocks (Koinobori) were setup to celebrate Children’s Day in Japan, you normally see them in Japan from April through early May.

We ended the day by visiting the Aquarium gift shop beside the Tokyo Skytree…yes more gift shops LOL.

We will definitely visit Tokyo Skytree again.
