The 2000's kids problems | overprotection | calming pills | private tutoring too soon
This post will be a little outside of my main goal in this platform but i just have something in my head that i've talked with a lot of people and they all agree with me, we're making our kids like robots and overprotecting them.
So to tell a little more about myself, i give on my free time(that is not much) some computer lessons to kids, so i'm a little in the education field, i have 2 nephews and my girlfriend is a private teacher to kids.
In Portugal i’m seeing a lot changing since my childhood, and i am only 27 years old.
People are making their kids lazy as hell, putting them in private tutoring teachers since the 1st grade, so they don’t play outside, they go out of school and directly into those private tutorings, and then the parents complain about the kids having too much energy and can't be quiet in one place, hmmmm.. when i was their age i would spend all afternoon jumping around and playing with my friends, spending the energy i didn't even had, but we did it and it was beautifull. So now they have a problem, because they are too noise or too agitated, and what is the solution for that?
Today more then half of the kids i know are considered as hyperactive, i climbed trees i jumped of roofs, i would arrive home everyday with a new wound, but now those kids are considered sick! Dammit if i was born 10 or 15 years later all my friends including me would be considered as hyperactive...
And then what do parents do? They go to the doctor and the doctor say, yeah your kid has a problem and needs to take this pills to calm down, but then what happens when you give calming pills to an 8 year old kid? What will happen when he reaches his adulthood and might want to go out of drugs (yeah he has been a drug addicted since a kid) and don’t even know what he’s like normally.
They will for sure get depressed, i know a lot of cases about this kind of pills given to kids too early and with bad diagnosis, and when they reached adulthood their head was completely messed up! Being diagnosed with depression (what?! a 18yo person with depression? ok it could happen but not this frequently). I have 2 nephews and both take that s*it, i’m tired of telling my sister to stop giving them drugs, but she just says, oh but they cannot study without them, and i’ll tell her well maybe you shouldn’t had put them on drugs and on a private tutoring teacher that soon in the first place, and let them discover how to study by themselves like i did, and my friends did no?
When i was a kid i had to learn how to study almost by myself, and the kids who were in private tutoring, were really smart kids that wanted to take a medicine degree since their childhood, or the ones with really learning problems. Today 90% of the kids are in this kind of private tutoring spending half of the day in a closed room doing exercises and homework, c'mon they are less then 10 years old and you're putting them in a prison?! What would you expect from a kid with so much energy, and spends the whole day from room to room without playing around, without jumping, getting wounds, playing on the dirt? Ofcourse they will go home full of energy, scream and wanting to play, that is how kids are meant to be, they are not meant to be in a room all day with that age.
My girlfriend is a private tutor and she’s says that kids that start on those kind of places from so early they will never learn how to study by themselves, they just want somebody to tells them how to do and what to do, she told me one day that most of the time the kids don't even bother to try to learn by themselves, she told them to search something on a book or online and do you know what they do? they ask her to search it and show it to them, they are completely lazy because of those kind of tutoring from early age.
I think human beings have time to everything, when we're kids we just want to play around, build stuff, and not just being in a room studying all day, they will have time for that after 15 on high school or even after 18 in college.
My solution to this problem would be like a place that they could play around after classes and then, when arrived home do their homeworks in one hour or something like i did with their age, and only after they've tried to do it by themselves ask their parents any difficulties they had or something they couldn't do without help, not the other way around.
So this is one thing that i wanted to put out because it really bothers me the way we're teaching out kids to live.
Maybe i'll post something more in this field that bothers me as well (social media, phones at 10 age etc.)
But don't worry crypto posts are coming ;)
Cheers people and thank you all for the support :)
