Interesting play on words... Using but vs and. I can see how it can be used in a way that is a lot more supportive. For example... youre a great friend sometimes and if you werent such a jerk the rest of the time you would be my best friend! I will have to change the way I give feedback because of this. Thanks!

It's really a very simple change that may affect a lot :) Btw, your example is a very good o e as well. Guess everyone can see that a "but" in there would turn it around the bad way.
