Leaving a legacy!
Carve your name on hearts not on tombstones. A legacy is etched into the mind of others and the story they share about you----Shaloon L. Alder.
I guess we all want to leave a legacy. No one would love to just exist on this earth and be remembered for nothing. Leaving a legacy is an important part of our life's journey. It stems from being a blessing to others and pursuing one's passion.
Someone once said "it's better to invest in people than to invest in buildings". I confirmed the originality of this statement when my Dad told me a story of a man in his hangout group who was about 50 years and wanted to celebrate his 50th birthday. According to him, the man kept on boasting of how he was going to celebrate his 50th birthday himself and how his is going to shoulder all the expenses. I gave it some thought and I asked myself, should a man of 50 celebrate his birthday himself alone? What happened to his wife and kids?
When we hear about leaving a legacy, some folks think one have to be the president of a country to be able to leave a legacy. Some think one has to be so rich to be able to leave a legacy. Leaving a legacy is simply what people will remember you for when your name is mentioned, whether you are alive or have left the surface of this earth.
There are many ways to leave a legacy. Three of which is;
1)Raising a family: Family they say is everything. If you give your best to raising a family, when you are old, your legacy will live on and they will take care of you whole heartedly and when you are gone, they will always remember you. That's why I find it Odd that a man of 50years will be shouldering the expense of his birthday alone. What happened to his wife, kids and friends? What legacy has he been leaving for them?
2)Influencing others: One of the ways to leave a legacy is by being an influential part of other people's life either by being a mentor to them or by helping others . People don't easily forget someone who has helped them or someone who has taught them something valuable. You can also be a influential part of someone's life by being a good friend to them.
3)Pursuing your passion: This may sound a little selfish but it's very true because your passions are legacy. When you pursue your passion, you will be known for something and there will always be a legacy to leave behind. Don't miss out on the opportunity to pursue your passion, pursuing your passion keeps you happy and if you are happy, you can make others happy.
The concept of legacy is a big one. I have always wanted to be a good daughter, to be a good mother and wife when the time comes, to be a good friend, to help others the best way I can and to ensure that no one I come in contact with leaves me the same way they came. I want to be a blessing to my generation. I want to build a legacy that would continue to live even when I am gone.
So, the question is what are you living for? What will you be remembered for? Who will remember you when you are gone? Carve your name on the hearts of people! Leave a legacy!

thank you kweenbrand you are very gracious, understanding and wonderful!
This is something i think about a lot. It can be a struggle between providing for a family, taking care of yourself, and getting the time with your family they really deserve.
