# Indonesian Farmer Crisis

Indonesia is an agrarian country because most of the population of Indonesia has a livelihood in agriculture or farming. This is based on the fact that the country has over 31 million ha of land ready for planting.

Agriculture in Indonesia produces a some of export commodities, including rice, corn, soybeans, vegetables, chili. In addition, Indonesia is also known for its plantation products, including rubber (tire raw materials), palm oil, tobacco, cotton (textile raw materials), coffee, and sugarcane.

However, The number of Indonesian farmers has decreased recently. Researchers from Research Center the occupation of LIPI states that of 71 percent of Indonesians dependent on agriculture, only 3 percent of farmer's children are willing to continue their parents' work in the agricultural sector. Thus, it is also influenced by the modernization of the village.

There is no farmer regeneration

The farmer regeneration crisis causes 61 percent of farmers in Indonesia aged over 54 years. In addition, the number of farmers continues to decline. In 2001 the number of farmers reached 32 percent or equivalent to 14 million, in 2015 and then reached 9 million. Under the same conditions, in 2015 the number of Indonesian farmers is only 6 million people. How about 2018 ? The average annual decrease reaches 3 percent.

the problems faced by farmers are related to market, production pattern and income certainty.
Further, the crucial problem, 97 percent of Indonesian farmers depend on the price of middlemen. This is because the price of Bulog has not yet touched into farming community. Of course, this causes the income of farmers in Indonesia to be small.

Our farmers' perception is 63 percent less than 1 million /month and the income of 3 million /month is only 11 percent depending on the harvest. So it is hard for the farmer to fulfill their need related the life cost, children's education cost and health cost.

According to the annual data, what will happen to Indonesia in 2030?
