THE BEST WAY TO GET WHAT YOU WANT
Jane hated school just like Christians hate the devil. She never want to have anything to do with school or anything related to school.
This made her parents really worried as her future is very important to them and so therefore, she needed to be educated. They have tried almost everything possible to get their beloved daughter to go to school but it never works. Now Dave, Jane’s father was really worried.
He sat up one night and asked himself what he could do to get his daughter to want to go to school like other kids. Then he came up with something. He woke his wife and shared his idea with her and they both decided to do it.
The next morning while at the table, Dave took out a novel from his pocket and handed it over to his wife to read. She read it and both of them laughed and talked about the novel while Jane sat there just watching.
They did this over and over again and slowly Jane interest was aroused. She now really want to join in, she wants to read too but the problem was that she can’t read. When she indicated interest, Dave told her that if she wanted to read with them, she has to learn how to read and the best place for that was at school.
Jane was really eager to learn to read that the next morning she woke up before everyone and was already ready for school before her parent could wake.
It’s often said that no matter how much you love fruits, you can’t catch a fish with it. You can only catch a fish with what the fish wants and that includes worms and bugs not fruits.
So it is in life. The mistake we almost always make is that we always expect others to do for us what we want, we want our parents to give us extra money, we want our boss to give us a raise and we want our children to obey our every word which is not bad but what we must consider first and foremost is WHAT DOES THE OTHER PERSON WANT?
In a book written by Harry A. Overstreet titled INFLUENCING HUMAN BEHAVIOUR, he said “action springs out of what we fundamentally desire”
Just like the story, Dave was able to get Jane to go to school because he was able to create in her the desire to also want to go to school.
Now, I want you to get this, the best way to get what you want from somebody is to make that person want to give that thing to you. Human beings are creatures of habit and are moved by their desire for something at all time so therefore, it will be very wise for us to learn to leverage on this strong force.
Looking to get something from someone, look for want the person really want as everyone want something at every point in their lives then, find a way to link what you want from them, to what you want.
Just like Dave did with Jane. I can give you whatever you want provided I get what I too want, that is life.
Next time you want something, don’t dive into telling what you want but look for a way to make the person want to do it for you and don’t be dubious, it’s not wise.
