Remember that time you were challenged to make a song?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

One of the talents I seem to have is the ability to create music. I've been doing it for years and still dabble around with it even with my hectic schedule. I've spent countless hours teaching myself how to play instruments, use production software, learning VST's, music theory, the list goes on and on. It's a passion of mine for sure I don't really share it with a lot of people.
Sure there was the time @sykochica and myself were in a bluegrass/blues band. That was a good learning experience, and a lot of great memories. But today I wanted to share the story of how I was challenged to make a song by a friend of mine.

I've been part of a online gaming community for 10+ years. We've always had a voice server of some kind going so we could speak with each other while we game. Of course we're not always gaming, so sometimes we'll just sit and BS with each other.
One night I was playing in Ableton, a popular music production software, and happened to mention it in voice chat. My friend in the room asked what kind of music I make, and I told him pretty much anything. He laughed, and asked again, "you can make any time of song genre?"
"Yes" I replied. He then asked if he could come up with some song ideas, and see if I could make them. I was more then up for the challenge, so I said bring it on.
After discussion with some of the other members in our voice chat, they decided I needed to make a Dubstep song, with Boxxy, the popular internet meme lady, in the song somewhere. (This was 4 years ago btw, the height of popularity for both)
After about 2-3 hours, I came up wit this

So it's not my best song or music piece I've ever made, it turned out better then I thought it would given the criteria. Also I want to point out everything you hear in that song was a sample sound or a virtual instrument that I then played. (Short of Boxxy speaking)

Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my odd but wonderful life.

Very good job friend. A lot of people can't make a song. I could make basic songs only because I've been playing for a few years know and know decent music theory.

Thanks! I don't claim to be good at it, but I love to create so it's just another outlet I tend to use.

Whoa! that was really really good, i tried once to make songs, it was on this synthesizer that i had gotten from a friend....failed horribly at it

at least you have some talent haha, keep up the good work !
