A Lesson When Everything Seems Lost.
"Faith is taking the first step, even when you can not see the whole ladder."
Many times in our life everything seems lost. A business that did not work, a marriage that ended, an irreparable loss, or even an injustice leads us to think that there is no solution. More than hurt and saddened it seems that hope is gone and there are no more expectations about tomorrow. But worse than just seeing our world come to an end is the full conviction that God has gone away and left us alone when we need it most.
But in looking at the history of Mordecai we see that God does not have to appear present to be present. We do not need to see him acting to know that he's acting. As much as everything seems lost and you think this is your end, God is working behind the scenes, where no one sees or knows what he is doing. God works always in our behalf when we hope in faith for him. As in Mordecai's story, we can not assess the real meaning of an event and understand the hand of God in our lives until we see the result, sometimes many years later.
Only God can turn a situation completely lost into an amazing victory. We do not need to see God acting to know that he is acting. We just have to wait and trust. It is so throughout the bible and it does not have to be different in our life.
The Israelites also thought it was the end when persecuted by the Egyptian soldiers they came across the Red Sea. Joseph thought it was the end when he had all his dreams frustrated by being sold as a slave by his brothers. Sara had given up hope of being a mother by seeing her already elderly face in the mirror. And Jesus' disciples lost all faith after 3 years years following the one they thought would redeem Israel when they saw Jesus crucified and humbled. But in each of these situations, as in the story of Esther's book, God completely changed the situation overnight and did so when all hope seemed to be over.
If all seems lost now, know that God has not yet put the end point in your story. This is just another step in history in which you will be victorious in faith. You do not have to see victory coming to make sure God has already prepared it for you. Just wait and be amazed at the faithfulness and care of this God who acts in his favor even though it appears that he is not there.
