A Journey Far Away Home
I want to go abroad", "I want to provide more for the finances of my family", "I want to give my family a better future", "I need to achieve my dream to work abroad", these are some thoughts and sentiments that I have in mind way back since I was in college, I can still remember when I wrote it in one of my diaries: ''At the age of 23, I will work abroad ". I have this dream to save, invest and earn more for my family especially because I am the breadwinner of the family. Also, just like some, OFW's, I am also inspired with the success of others so I want to try my luck outside the country.
Fortunately, February 8 this year, I am able to go to Abu Dhabi, UAE. Yes, it's true, that It will takes too much courage, determination, faith and motivation to able to get out of your own box, to get through on abroad life and most importantly to leave temporarily on your own country. This is the moment when I experience that I am not the first class citizen anymore, it is also the time that I need to indulge myself with other cultures, foods, places and peoples. It is indeed filled with mixed emotions, I felt the extreme excitement because finally I can be an OFW, a successful individual, a good provider and etc. Hence, I have also this feeling of lost and emptiness because I am thousand miles away from my family, friends and loved ones. This is the situation that I didn’t know what the future had in store for me here in other country.
But one thing is for sure about all of these uncertainties, that I have God who will provide, as per Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. So I will keep my faith in Him and walk through the path that He provided me.
I salute all OFW's, this is not an easy journey, but let our faith be stronger than our fears. God bless us all Kabayan! :)
Psalm 25:4-5 - "Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."
