Have you ever noticed in movies depicting centuries gone by that the beds of rich people are elevated off the floor and are quite large? The beds of the poor are blankets spread over some straw or pine branches, or sometimes pine needles or leaves. The wealthier the owner, the bigger and taller is the bed frame, the softer the bedding, and thicker the bed clothes.

Socio-economic status is indicated in many ways. From the houses we live in to the cars we drive to the clothes we wear and the beds we sleep in. Sometimes, no matter the bank balance some people will choose to live with what they need and not what they can afford to accumulate. They do not shop just because they can; they choose to employ their resources to help others or donate to worthy or moral causes.

Those having limited incomes have little choice and purchase what they need to live - like food and clothes. Those with a large surplus in their budgets frequently choose to exhibit their wealth by purchasing status symbols and luxury items.

Not that folks should all sleep on the ground under the stars, exposed to the elements, or commit to a spartan existence and never experience life's comforts. But, we would be better off appreciating what we have and sharing it when we see someone in need, rather than focusing on having everything we want and keeping it all to ourselves. Open up your heart, pay it forward, help someone in need.
