Why We Lose Friends

Friends make life way more interesting. Do you remember your first friend? I remember mine and though we don't see or talk like before, there is not a lot that this guy would ask of me that I wouldn't do. Sometimes friendships don't end on such a good note though but that's all part of life.

I've heard many explanations for why we lose friends; "they screwed me over", "we were interested in different things", "we just sort of drifted apart". All of that can be true but recently I gained a new perspective on the subject of losing friends. I believe that life is about progression. As we go through life we are given many opportunities to grow and move up to new levels and we need assistance from other people to get there. Have you ever considered that your purpose in your "friends'" life was to help them get to another level, and that when that was over, so would be your friendship?

I had something like that happen to me and at first I thought this person had used me and I was very angry and disappointed but then i asked myself what my intentions were for this person. Deep down I wanted to see them succeed and at a particular point in our friendship, I was not able to help them any further. They needed a different circle of people with similar interests that would propel them forward and I needed the same as well.

Maybe not all friendships are meant to last forever. Remember bad implies good and vice versa. I've seen ex-friends that I'm happy that I'm no longer friends with because of the habits and people that they surround themselves with, and I've also had people who i wished i was still friends with but in my heart I held no regrets because I'm in a better position compared to where I was.
