How to avoid arguments in the workplace.

in #life7 years ago

I work in the restaurant industry.

Believe me when I tell you....... people that have to stand on their feet all day waiting on other people are ready to argue with each other at a minute's notice.

The state that I live in does not require businesses to give you a break.

Most places will give you a break anyway....... but the restaurant business is a rotating carousel that never slows down or stops. We can't really take a break if we want to keep getting seated tables. Who would wait on them? We're not offered one anyway.

No one really seems to have a problem with that however it does mean that you don't get to unwind at any point.

People might get a little more irritated with each other and be really aggressive when they normally wouldn't. It's because they're hungry....... or because they haven't sat down and several hours.

So how do you keep from arguing and getting on each other's nerves when we all have to work so closely together?

Well the main answer to that question is to simply try to see the world from another person's perspective.

I know it's easy to say that...... but it's a lot harder to actually do it when you're also waiting on a lot of tables and having people screaming at you and demanding things from you.

We have two employees that are constantly at each other's backs right now.

They will both try to eat lunch at the same time.

Eating lunch does not mean that you get a break.

Eating lunch means that your food will sit on a table for an hour while you constantly check on tables and come back and forth to grab a small bite whenever you can while your food gets cold.

These will argue about who gets what table....... and they will take longer than they should and not get back to their tables..... because they are in arguments with each other.

The truth is that these two gentlemen do not get along outside of work and that's probably the biggest factor involved here.

I'm friends with everyone that I work with. I know each person is different than me but they each have their flaws and they each have their positive aspects as well.

That's the thing that really strange. Most people at work like both of these individuals.... they just don't like each other.

They're not seeing the world from the other person's perspective.

"Hey I'm really hungry and tired right now."

"Me too? So who cares?"

That's sort of how it goes. They see each other as being in the same position...... but they're not in the same position.

Neither of them is willing to take the time to see what actually happens outside of work for the other person.

Neither of them is willing to give the other person the benefit of the doubt.

You can assume that the person you're arguing with is just a jerk who won't seem to get along with you like these gentlemen do.

You can also try to see things from the other person's perspective which will give you a better ability in dealing with people.

I imagine there's a lot of stress working in a restaurant. Do you ever watch TV shows about dysfunctional restaurants? I wonder how true they are.

Wao, while I read, I could see how difficult work must be, but work is work. Regards

Controversy of the qualities of some human beings

There is no break in the business restaurant 😰

Sounds like there is a competition between the two of them or they are married.
Or they have to reach the break point and eventually the will hug it out.
Great post!
Resteemed!

That’s kind of funny to argue over eating lunch 🥗 when you aren’t really eating.

It’d be funny if you wrote this from their perspective (well to me, because I don’t have to work with them).

I believe we're born with different characters and some people have arguement as a character.
