Why Sundays are so depressing?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

So it's Friday night, you are living your life to the fullest. Maybe at home watching Netflix and eating loads of junk food. Or at a party drinking away with your homies. You wake up late on a Saturday morning. Continue with your day plans be it a picnic or some other favorite rituals of yours. Your two-day mini vacay has made you forget about the appalling day that is to happen.

Come Sunday morning, the melancholy strikes as you tend to think about Monday and the hassle that it brings along. The question is, we have the whole day to ourselves, yet why do Sundays still feel so depressing? And here is why.

You leave your work for Sundays

One biggest reason we feel depressed, especially after a lunch meal or supper, is because we leave all our work due on Sundays. This goes same as with any other work. When you work near the deadline, it obviously causes stress. Your brain cannot handle the cortisol it produces and you try to cope up with your work with a bagel and a cup of coffee. But this only causes an increase in cortisol level.

The sugar can increase the stress hormone up to five hours hence your whole Sunday is somewhat ruined. Stress upon stress.

How to organize The basic principle to achieve tranquility is to make your Saturdays your Sundays. Do at least 90% of your work on a Saturday. You can even leave out the ‘Sunday work’, on Saturday morning and night. Keep only your mid-day for the tasks you are supposed to get done and you will see a great positive impact the next day.

You Overthink

Overthinking is the lead cause of depression. When you have two days of enjoyment and the only day that’s left is a Sunday. Eventually, you get to have depression and the work, double trouble. You start discerning instead of doing something to lighten-up your mood. You think about the coming whole week’s burden and it feels like a threat to you.

Evaluate your plans: Make a time table on a weekday during your lunch break. You should try to manage and work according to the schedule. Stick tight to your agenda. Do NOT overthink. When you feel like you are, busy yourself in an activity you love doing. Let your body take you where you want to go instead of your mind.

Knowing you won’t be able to sleep for next five days

This is like one of the biggest horror films that roam around in our mind whenever we sit down on our cozy sofas on a Sunday. The feeling of setting an alarm for the next five days, for early mornings, is just as harsh as the feeling of not completing our work on a deadline.

Don’t you wish to break your alarm clock? (Not if your alarm clock is actually your cellphone because then you’d give it a goodnight kissy before sleeping every time.)

Incomplete tasks/chores

All the incomplete assignments, homework and workload only increase your depression. Especially if you have laundry to do.

They say laundry is a great way to relief stress, but if it’s on a Sunday? I think it causes quadruple strain.

You compare your weekends with your week

Comparison in any case is not healthy at all. It only ends in resentment.

If you start comparing your weekends with your weekdays, you will for sure end up in anxiety.
What you should do instead: You have to know all days of your life can never be the same. There is always something new and positive each day we just tend to ignore those little blessings. Thinking about the positivity and sanctifications makes you thankful for each day even if it’s a Monday.

Fear of Mondays

Did you know there is actually a phobia of Mondays? It’s called ‘lunaediesophobia.’ I’m sure most of you don’t hate Mondays rather fear them. Fear of Mondays makes Sundays horrid and unpleasant.

Let them go by watching your favorite comedy show or a comedy movie. Remember, watching sad movies will only make you lazier and boost endorphin levels in your brain.
Before Monday, take a relaxing bath, meditate and/or enjoy a manicure or a pedicure. It will make you unperturbed in a blissful way the next morning.

You Are Lazy Bum

Yes, you read it right. You don’t kick the lazy out of you on Sunday because of Monday thoughts in your head. To overcome your laziness you must exercise. Yoga is the best way to heal your mental health.

Dust off, burn your anxiety and increase your endorphins by working out. Exercise is nature’s anti-depressant. On a plus note, you will have an amazing night sleep and wake up feeling fresh in the morning.

No matter how much dull Sunday look to you, Mondays are always a fresh start. Mondays are hope!

The reason why people feel that Sunday's are melancholic and depressing is that most times they're fighting to battle the thoughts of going to work the next day

Like you said it’s a fear of Monday’s and I hate Monday’s to my guy trust me. Monday’s are the worst days in my life, because it’s like your out of shape over the weekends and then you come back and it’s hard the first day to be working because there is a lot of work to be doings and catch-up that if your a lazy person like me you hate it to the GUT!.

I love the way you ended this "No matter how much dull Sunday look to you, Mondays are always a fresh start. Mondays are hope" Nicely stated! Have a great Sunday and even better Monday!
