Google Assistant Records Your Voice and We are Losing Privacy

Online privacy is a big issue. As technology advances, the more our privacy was being risked as the technology giants are recording almost everything we do online.

Another example is Google Assistant which records our voice and audio activities. I found a post from News Corp Australia Network which reported another report from The Sun regarding the feature from Google on Android phones. You might not know that some of what you are speaking up might be recorded. I tried what they had suggested and this is what I found out.

First, go to history.google.com/history, and you will be brought here:

All your activities in Google and their products here are recorded. Whatever you searched on Google search engine will show up here, including YouTube searches. Even your location is recorded here. Some of your activities on your Android phone is also recorded.

Now, to check on where the audio was saved look at the screenshot below:

Go to Activity Controls and you will be brought to the screenshot image below:

Tap on MANAGE ACTIVITY, then tada!

You can now listen to the audios recorded. There are a lot of audios you never knew existed. Guess what? There are transcripts of some audios. Good thing, the audios of mine that are recorded has no transcripts and just noises.

You can pause Google audio and voice recording by going back to Voice and Audio as seen at the screenshots below.

Unfortunately, despite deleting past activities, they might already been recorded. Do check the activity control from time to time because there are often updates and upgrades from Google. It is annoying that we are lacking online privacy as what Google does.

Online searches

Ever wondered why an annoying ad from Google Adsense is showing up on a website you are visiting. It's not just about the website encrypting such ad, your Google searches might have something to do with it. Remember, Google asks you to log in on Google Chrome, which is recording your searches.

Are we being sold by Google?

I will not say yes, but it's up to you if you think it is. If you think about it, our activities were being saved by them including our searches, then an advertisement will show up related to your past searches. Google earns from advertisement, and we don't only see random ads like what we see on TV. We see ads that are accordingly to our past searches! What we need is privacy from our phone, which is unlikely to happen soon knowing how giant the company is.
