The Biggest Threat to our Civilisation
English physicist Professor Brian Cox, who is in New Zealand for a science show, told NZ Herald Focus that anti-vaxxers, climate change sceptics and other groups which discredited science were the biggest danger to civilisation.
"When people ask me what are the great threats to civilisation, it's true that very unlikely things like asteroid impacts, there are those threats out there in the universe, but really I think the biggest threat to our civilisation at the moment is the disconnect in democratic societies between facts or data and the understanding of our electorates."
I wholeheartedly agree with the serious danger of disconnect between those who truly understand what is going on politically, scientifically and technologically and the masses who accept information without question. But as much as I respect Brian Cox I have to disagree with his views on human vaccination.
This exemplifies the case in point, and is an extremely important matter. When searching for articles listing the reasons not to vaccinate I was alarmed to find any such data extremely hard to find. I could easily find any many sites that claimed to list such, but would then list why all the reasons for vaccination were completely bogus... but is that really the case? While I believe some vaccines are truly safe and useful, there have been many that have been clearly proven to have extremely serious side effects.
Parents who choose not to vaccinate their children and protect them with vaccine exemption forms are often chastised and stereotyped for putting their own kids at risk. But what is even stranger than this assault on individual freedom and informed choice, is that these concerned parents are attacked for putting vaccinated children at risk.
I would urge you all to read the article by Shane Ellison - Parents Should Question Vaccine Safety and Effectiveness by Using Vaccine Exemption. This article lists the vaccines and reasons they should not be used. Shane Ellison hold a master’s degree in organic chemistry is not alone in his views by any means. Many highly respected doctors and scientists in closely related fields have broken from the pack to share their concerns. We all know academia can be controlled or bought off by large industrial or political concerns, so we must not take any information they give at face value and always fully research these matters ourselves. And when necessary educate ourselves enough that we can truly understand the answers.

Everything in life comes with a price and thats the price we are paying for been civilized, however,it all depends on us to balance the equation by making sure we are getting more of the merits than the demerits.

True words, the biggest threat to civilization is the human itself and the ignorance of them. If this would not happen we would be on the next level already because technology could be much more developed already.

Too much information is causing problems for us to be able to think for ourselves. We need to get information from credible sources than make our own judgement on what to do.
I do agree ... It is helpful to have truly trustworthy industry and academic professionals that can share their great experience and and superior knowledge. But their credentials and motivations must be 100% respected - which is attainable but sadly not common!

i would argue that the biggest threat of civilization, are the governments of the world due to fear of disruption and at the same time luck of proper education

I wouldn't say it's the government itself, but of course they take their part of it. But even if people get proper education there are so many people who just ignore facts and want to make their own little "world" as it pleases themself. That's the real problem. Government is one part of this.
An interesting point of View I think Governments and Religion have a lot to answer for, In terms of the environment we are not helping the, "So Called Ozone Layer" Though life in all forms is cyclical..
