Day 9/30 Be Happy Challenge: Savor Life, Love and Every Smile

in #life7 years ago

Have you ever heard the saying "Don't sweat the small stuff"?

Whoever first said that has a really good point. It is so easy to get caught up in the little things that stress us out and these little things can ruin our day.

The truth of the matter is, it's not worth expending energy on most of the things we react to, especially things that happen on a daily basis that we don't like.

It is a choice. We can choose to let the fact that someone nabbed the best parking spots at work, or the grocery store is out of the cake mix that the children had their heart set on get to us.

Or we can choose to not make a big deal of it, go and park somewhere else, go to different shop or make do without. We can choose to see the silver lining - the positive stuff.

If we park further away we can enjoy the stroll, get a little more exercise before we head into the office, If we can't find the right cake mix means we can either look in another shop, or try something new instead, which could be even better than the usual one.

There are two sides to almost every situation and it is our prerogative how we look at them. Make it a goal to try and see the positive and look on the bright side. Monty Python says it best "Always Look on the bright side of life". (It's lucky you can't hear my singing while I type).

Make this a daily goal and when you make this choice consistently your happiness and contentment will rise epically. as you will see all the good stuff around you. Choose to stop and smell the roses or watch a butterfly.

There are so many tiny positives around you, that there will be one you can think of to put a smile on your face if you take the time to notice them. I used to wonder when I went to work on the train whether I was the only one who noticed the rabbits in the field, or the fox appearing from behind the bush. It makes me smile thinking about it now.

This week use some of your downtime to savour the small stuff - the smell of your coffee, how it warms your hands on a cold day, what it is about the taste you like. Or if you notice the birds (or a squirrel) on your birdfeeder, stop to watch their little antics and marvel at the wonderful things nature has to offer. Notice how these things make you smile.

Appreciate the hugs that your children give you, whatever their age. Devour all the little stuff that makes you happy and enjoy those moments, instead of nitpicking the bad ones.

It may not seem like much, but its another step towards happiness and you just have to take the time to notice.

Over the next few weeks, practise noticing and savouring the good little things and don't let the little bad things bring you down. Ignore them and acknowledge the good things that make you smile. It won't take long before this simple exercise makes a big difference.

I'd love to see your comments and questions and make this an interactive challenge. I am here to help.
