My father used to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them!!

in #life7 years ago

She asked him, 'How much are you selling the eggs for?'
The old seller replied, 'Rs.5/- an egg, Madam.'
She said to him, 'I will take 6 eggs for Rs.25/- or I will leave.'
The old seller replied, 'Come take them at the price you want. Maybe, this is a good beginning because I have not been able to sell even a single egg today.'

She took the eggs and walked away feeling she has won. She got into her fancy car and went to a posh restaurant with her friend. There, she and her friend, ordered whatever they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered. Then she went to pay the bill. The bill costed her Rs.1,400/-. She gave Rs. 1,500/- and asked the owner of the restaurant to keep the change. This incident might have seemed quite normal to the owner but, very painful to the poor egg seller.

The point is:

Why do we always show we have the power when we buy from the needy ones? And why do we get generous to those who do not even need our generosity?

I once read somewhere:

'my father used to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he even used to pay extra for them. I got concerned by this act and asked him why does he do so? Then my father replied, "It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my child”

Thank you @hamza. Your father sounded like a really, really good person. If we had more people like him, this World would be much better off.

Im Resteeming this really good Article, thanks again :)

Thank you so much :) :) @robertandrew we want this World much better off.

Your father was not only wise, but generous in ways that didn't need a big show of things. He is a man we should all strive to become.

I've always had this plaque in my possession. I don't know where my mom found it, but it's always been in my bedroom. It reads:

(My Name)
"Man of Distinction"
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice.
-Psalm 112:5

It's a verse that's stuck with me ever since I was young. I have always interpreted it as: be generous, be fair, and be reasonable. Life will repay you in kind.

@ddrfr33k Your mom did a work whom we can not pay a value :) :) I salute your mom :)
but i want it to spread so that everyone come to generosity :)

Great, what a nice explanation by telling that story!!
Everyone of us used to do the same often, but no one take it serious so that it should be changed.

I have seen this very closely in my life, Because my childhood is also spent in a similar scenario.
I do not say that we should encourage the poor, but whoever the poor really do hard work for his stomach, we must definitely help him. We really need to change our thought now.

“We are not rich by what we possess but by what we can do without.”
― Immanuel Kant

Thanks :) but many of our society don't care the poor and give their sarcastic views on them :) :) my basic purpose is to spread this so that someone changed his behavior to the poor :)
I felt pleasant for your resteem to the post :)
thanks again
