Alternative sleeping cycles
Hello
I thought i would bring different methods of sleeping to you attention today.
Did you know sleeping for seven to nine hours like you normaly would is just one of many possibilities? There are studies that show the difference between monophasic cycle which is the classic and other interesting cycles that could even let you sleep only for 4 hours and still be fresh.
Do you find yourselve in a press all the time? Would extra 2 hours every day save your life? Your job won't allow you to get enough sleep? Worry not and read further!
Monophacis Cycle
As i said before, it is the standart way consisting of one sleep at night of 7 - 9 hours. Despite being most common it is the most efficient?
Pros and cons:
- Very convenient
- Flexible
- Low risk of sleep deprivation
- Requires large amount of sleep
Biphasic cycle
This cycle starts incorporating a nap which eventualy saves you some time and allows you to have longer nights. This cycle is common in Latin America for example
Pros and cons:
- Napping improves memory and cognitive functions
- Provides a boost mid day on tiring or sleep-deprived days
- For insomniacs, napping perpetuates bad habbits
Everyman Cycle
Hardcore sleeping cycle with minimal sleeping time consisting of one core sleep and three naps spread across the day.
Pros and cons:
- Long waking hours
- Naps are very brief (20mins)
- Once you adapt huge flexibility
- Daytime naping can be a drag
Dymaxion Cycle
This one is only for people who don't require much sleep such as elders or 'short sleepers' as it consists of only 2 hours of sleep in total
Pros and cons:
- Most waking hours of any cycle
- 6 hour waking periods
- Most dificult to adapt to
- Not convenient for scheduling
Uberman cycle
Cycle for people who don't preform activities longer than 3.5 hours.
Pros and cons:
- Once adapted you get the ability to quickly fall asleep anywhere
- Only alitle over 2 hours of sleep required
- Naps are very short
- Extremely inflexible
Im personaly trying to adapt to the Dymaxion right now as my job allows me to take a nap after lunch and having to sleep only for 2 hours is super appealing..
Which one will you try? :-)

I sort of flucuate between the different cycles. One day i sleep 12 hours, and the next 2 days I'll sleep like 4-6. I'm hard to categorize i guess. It sure is an interesting post though, I'm just wondering how it ended up in a gaming category..
How about the 'Grad Student Cycle'?
2 naps, 5 minutes each.
from 22 to 9. screw all this technics, be a hardcore man.
Wow this is very great information, thanks a lot :)
"Dymaxion Cycle"
Tried this one like 2 years ago, failed miserably after 2days, now I'm sleeping like 4-5h at night and 0,5 ~ 2.5h "naps" in the afternoon..
You still manage to sleep alot less than average person so.. Success? :D
Well if you don't mind being tired, yes haha
Nice schedules! I sleep like 5 hours a night, but I'm going to try one of these schedules out. Thinking about the Biphasic or Everyman Cycle.
Follow and resteem!
Thanks alot! Make sure to make a post if you try one of them out.. i will be watching you.
I will definitely do that!
thanks for the information. but, still confused :). i dont get it at all :)
i would love to clarify it for you, but i am new to this aswell.. Hopefully i will be able to provide more info in my next post with real experience backing it up
i'd like to wait for that
Great thing is that you learn to fall asleep fast, even if you turn back to monophasic sleep
