DOMESTIC VOILENCE IN AFRICAN HOMES
I went to visit a friend, and I was gazing around and saw her neighbour slap his wife twice. I was in shock, he dragged his wife's hair and she was lucky it was a wig. I was very upset and I asked my friend about the couple, she told me that they have been married for 7 years and she pretends like everything is goinh wonderful well in her home so that she won't fail at her marriage. The excuse she gives is that she is still in her marriage because of her children.
Well this is what goes in most African homes:
In African marriages women are meant
to believe that they will not find another man interested in them after divorce (that men do not like second hand). They are also meant to believe that women should fight for their homes and not men. In Africa women are made to believe that Marriage ia their greatest achievement. Thus if a lady is 30 years and unmarried, she begins to feel depressed.
So the married women are advised to hold their husbands tight.
This gives men an edge over women in African marriages.
This enslaving believe has to stop. It has led to an increasing number of domestic voilence which has led to death in some cases.
Note that domestic voilence can be both physical or psychological.
I know that domestic voilence can be both sided but this right up is due to my experience today.
Women need to speak up. They need to seek help once they are no longer comfortable in their homes. But sometimes it's unfortunate that in an African setting when women report to their mothers, their mothers will tell them to 'manage their husbands and try to keep their homes'. As they do not want shame to come upon the family.
Men need to be know that there is no excuse for hitting a woman. Appropriate punishment for physical abuse should be put up to reduce the incidence of this epidemic.
Professional help and more establishments need to be set up for women suffering in silence in a domestic voilence filled home.
Marriage counselling and orientation is drastically needed in Africa. Women need to know that life is more than marriage and they need to be whole and hearty to train their kids in the right way.
WOMEN NEED TO SPEAK UP!
RUN BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
DOMESTIC VOILENCE MUST BE ERADICATED!

Imo if the community don't tolorate it then it will stop. Where i am from it was once the responsibility of the men in the community to discipline men that beat there wife. These men would get together one night and whip the abusive man to the brink of death (or so he would think).
I wish people can take actions this way to stop it. Thank you for your input.
