I was once wing-manning a lady while by buddy chatted up her friend. I forget the exact conversation but within the first 3 minutes of speaking to her I said something to the effect of "You won't be saying that when we are having sex later"
and we did.

A friend and I were having drinks years ago and he decided to literally see how much of a caustic asshole he could get away with with this woman that initiated a conversation with him. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breath. He went home with her. I picked him up walking away from her place a few hours later around 3am lol.
She initiated. That's good, it gives you a lot of leeway, seems like your friend took advantage of it too!
He was actually legitimately trying to get her to leave him alone lol.
