How I am trying to kick back into life.
Hey!
My name is Jan and today I want to share with you how I am trying to get out of my dark phase back into a state of mind, where I can learn to worship life again. I want to say, that I am still struggling to really get it wired in. I just feel like sharing and maybe inspiring you as well. This is also manifesting these goals for myself.
Let go of stuff!
The first thing I did was getting rid of a lot of old stuff. I sold old unused electronics such as keyboards and effect devices on eBay. The cool thing about getting rid of these things, especially if you get a bit of money back, is that it sends a clear signal to your brain that the past is definitely over. There are people living a massively minimalistic lifestyle and also books about minimalism, that can inspire you to get rid of all the unwanted stuff that slows you down. Unwanted presents, old pictures, unloved pieces of clothing. For most things, you'll find someone who could use it better than you. Try selling it or giving it away, heck, even upcycling some things can really improve your mental state. Keeping your space tidy helps to keep your mind tidy as well. Imagine as if your surroundings were a mirror of your inner mind. Do you want your mind and your thoughts to lay around like dirty socks or dirty cups?
Read some good books!
Even though I am not much of a reader, I got out there and bought some books for my Amazon Kindle. Since I am really interested in businesses and how good leaders work, I started off with the biography about Phil Knight, the book is called Shoe Dog. It was really inspiring because the way Mr Knight lived and breathed his dream in almost every single moment was just incredible. I definitely can recommend this book, as he also talks about the things he didn't do right. Another book I started was 'A brief history of humankind' by Yuval Noah Harari. It maybe wasn't the best choice for my current situation, because the book makes you question a lot of your own believes and decisions. But that can also be liberating and it makes you see the world from a new perspective even though it is by far not the most comfortable book I read.
Meet up with friends again!
I am a student and thus, really busy most of the time. After school ended a lot of my friends and a huge part of my loose social group were scattered all around the country. Everyone was focussing on their own studies and making new friends. I didn't have much luck with the latter, I had massive problems socialising at my university. That caused me to look up who of my old buddies was still around and called them or sent them a text. A strong group of people supporting you in hard times can really make the difference since there is nothing scarier than complete isolation.
Start picking up creative work!
I always liked making music, but I never really worked on finishing any songs or tracks. I have a bunch of sketches since it was really dependent on my mood if I wanted to make some music. For those interested, I mostly play around with my collection of Korg Electribes, featuring the SX, MX and the Electribe 2. For quite some time, I felt like it was better to make music without a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation, like Garage Band, Ableton Live, FL Studio, etc.) but I decided to save up on buying a copy in the next weeks, so I can get into creative work easier. Music is one of the things that really speak to my heart and make me forget about a lot of problems.
Do sports or take regular walks!
This one for me is by far the hardest point to master. Sports and other healthy activities. Eating good and balanced, walking enough steps every day, stretching your muscles every morning. I know that this can really be a game changer, but I keep putting it off. If you are struggling, there is a cool eBook Bundle over at humblebundle.com for a few days still. I already bought it and will read most of those books and start exercising reguarly.
I know that I am not perfecting any of these yet, but I want it. I need it. I want to get back on top of life again. If you want to feel that as well, I welcome you to take this journey with me. Share your thoughts with me in the comments!
