Mayhem And A Melt Down
—————-
So, I’ve been gone from this realm for nine days.
Honestly, the first few days were due to parties and social obligations, I suppose that’s really no excuse. However, last week we awoke to no internet service. Now, as I live in the woods, my ISP options are limited, yet I am pretty fortunate to have halfway decent service for a rural setting. That was until last Friday.
Our internet was down, so the cool post I had crafted about my farm chores in the winter had to be postponed. Well, I could have posted it, but I truly hate posting things on my phone, it’s just not my bag, so I decided to wait the few hours until our internet service was restored, as that is usually the way the story of no internet service goes round here. A rare no service interlude occasionally occurs and is restored quickly.
Then we got the news.
My friend texted me and asked if I had seen the ISP’s Facebook post about the tower burning down. Faster than a kid filming a Snapchat streak did I head over to FB and behold the tragedy. Picture after picture of our internet service tower and equipment greeted my saddened eyes as I scrolled through the page. The entire setup was a melted mess. The worst thing about it all was the text of the post itself, that even temporary internet service to those effected wouldn’t be restored for at least two weeks.
Two weeks! What were they doing? Bringing in the replacement parts by horse and wagon? The irony of the situation is the internet tragedy happened on the first day of our kid’s two week winter vacation from school. I told them that we’d have a 1996 Christmas this year, you know, since the 90’s are cool and stuff.
They were not amused.
Today we got a bit of a Christmas miracle as the got the system running a little bit again, alas one transmitter wasn’t up to par, so it looks like Thursday is the projected internet among us day again.
It’s stuff like this that makes one realize just how much we depend on post modern conveniences in our daily life. We’re all functioning just fine, I mean we have super pokey cell data that we can use, it’s just that we have become so used to a certain level of internet in our lives, and it’s been interesting to observe how the disruption brings to light just how fortunate and privileged our lives really are.
That’s sorta a good thing to have a ponder about during the holidays I think.
And now I’m going to sign off here as I have typed this entire missive with-my index finger and I’m pretty sure the digit’s tongue is hanging out🤪
Merry Christmas to you all and I will endeavor to catch up on answering your replies as I can!

Thank you! I had a wonderful time, and now that my Internet is back there's even a smile on my face, lol!
Hope you are having a fantastic weekend!
Good to know that. Yes i had a great time for sure. Stay blessed.
I haven't put Steemit on my phone because I "type" so badly on the phone! You did well! It has been so long since I lived without internet, I've forgotten what it's like. I have to remind myself I grew up with a phone stuck to the wall, party lines, no TV, and one radio in the house. We played a lot of board and card games. How times have changed!
Wow! Party lines, I haven't thought about those for awhile. They were all but gone by the time I was a kid, but then in Alaska we had a partyline for a bit and it was wild! My mom hated it, ha ha ha!
We still play a lot of cards and board games, you should have seen the Uno feelings death match over Christmas, it was intense!
And it's so nice to be back on the Net, things like that service outage remind me of just how awesome our lives are in these times:)
Hope you are having a fantastic weekend my friend!!!
