An Update From The Snow Queen

The Great Unearthing

Well, the last time I checked in with you all there was a fair amount of snow, now there is a significant amount, and after tonight's incoming storm I feel like we will have a respectable amount of the white floof.

Lest you think I am complaining about the crystals of cold H20, think again! It is January and snow should be in residence in North Idaho during this time. In fact, I have been hoping for an amount of snow of this magnitude, and as long is it is gone by the end of March, I am all hot cocoa happy about it.

This morning as I geared up to go out and feed the critters, I stopped and snapped a few pictures of the snow blanket covering that we currently have. It's truly beautiful. Sure, the snow makes my chorin harder and a bit more tedious. In fact, you might not want to see my attitude after I put all 1600 lbs of steer food away that is currently sitting in a giant bag on the back of my truck Rufus, but I digress, let me just say that right now, this morning, I am pleased as a properly fermented pickle in a gallon jar on a rough and tumble bar about all the snow.

What I am not super fond of is temperatures under 20 degrees Fahrenheit. If I didn't have to go out into the cold like that I would be peachy, but when one's nose hairs crystallize with frost as soon as you step outdoors, you know it is too cold for Kat then. Many apologies to those who dwell in places like Minnesota, Siberia, and Fairbanks, Alaska for my wimpiness. I know that you are laughing at me right now....

Today, after a few days hibernating, I must venture out into the winter kingdom to attend two games of basketball. Both my children have engagements of the bball kind tonight, so into the frozen waste I must hurl myself. Not that I am sad about such things, for it is an excuse to go get a cheeseburger that is dripping with onions and special sauce. Mmmm....No cooking tonight!

Hmmm....my mind keeps going back to the 1600lbs of show steer grain that needs to be bucketed into the big drums we store it in. This job of course belongs to my daughter, but as things have worked out due to the snow, illness, and scheduling, I think it is going to fall mostly on my diminutive shoulders. Eh, I am going to quit ruminating about it, the shoulder and back workout will be beneficial.

We have officially reached the appropriate threshold for roof jumping. It's a good thing too, for it is supposed to warm up above freezing by Monday and I have a strange feeling that the roof might need to be shoveled off by then. There is a lot less whining about conducting that job if the kids can throw themselves off of the roof along with the snow. I'm glad they are easily diverted.

And on that note, I am going to go sip my coffee and attempt to warm my chilled carcass by the wood stove. Nothing is better than a fire when one is thawing out their flintlocks and nosesicles...

Informative Addendum: I can refer to myself as the Snow Queen as I had to perform as her once, clad in a blood red, corseted ball gown in sub freezing weather.

And as always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's chilled yet strong willed iPhone.

I was half expecting some Narnians to filter out from the woods in these pictures. Beautiful! Cheers to some hot cocoa and melting the nosesicles. ☕️👃🏼

Ha! I've been described as Lilliputian, does that count?😁

You know, it really does look like one just stepped out of the wardrobe and into Narnia, I would totally dig having a cup of tea with Mr. Tumnus right now. Instead I am having a cup of cocoa before I go get all this diesel exhaust smell cleaned off me, it was an eventful morning, as we got another 6 inches of snow and had to put away a 1600lb bag of steer food.

Hope you are doing swell, including momma and new baby girl, Squee! I am so happy for you all!!

I wonder how much more snow that patio table can hold up before it collapses? It is probably quite sturdy. If our garage roof needs to be shoveled this winter, I think I know who to turn to....

That table is pretty tough! Usually we put it away or at least tip it over so it doesn't get to that state, but alas it got overlooked!

Roof brigade, woo!!

There are a couple of items at my house that didn't get ideally stowed. It happens.

Your truck is named Rufus?

How is it that I've missed that? Very cool.

While living in New Hampshire (in the 1970s) I'd go out for cold weather walks and come back in with a fully icicle-decorated face full of whiskers... so enough about this minor nose-hair stuff... ;)

And you say, after this winter you'll be bench pressing 400 pounds, right? ;)

Here's a hug to warm your carcass a bit... 🤗

I have to gather some firewood and kindling myself today, we're suffering from overnight temps in the 40's... (yeah, above freezing, that's right...)...

Thanks for sharing the beautiful snow-scenery for those of us not quite cold enough to have our own... ❤️

😄😇😉

@creatr

P.S. I didn't get here in time to vote your post, but I voted a comment of yours... ;)
