Big Boy Ruling The House From The Library

In his younger days, he ruled the neighborhood, the street, the trees, and yes, the house. Several dogs came in those nine years, but he was number one. As fearlessly as he stood guard over the comings and goings of his family, from his perch on the bookshelf, was how much love he had for Khrista, his human companion of nine years. 

Her love for Big Boy was never questioned, but cats can be set apart, not letting anyone know what they think.  During these last days, his devotion to Khrista was beyond imaginable. These last three days, no matter how weak and shaky he might be, he had to be with her. If he couldn't find her, he would look and look until he was at her side. The movement was more than he could handle, but the one he loved was now in sight. He would pause and rest for a few moments. Then she would would gather him up, wrap him in a blanket, and gently rock him. Such love and trust, a devotion beyond words, a bond that would only be broke in his passing. Even those last minutes, Big Boy was  in her arms. Then he quietly passed, leaving only happy memories and tender moments. 

One of those memories came out today as she was sharing how she was locked out of her house one day, as she often seemed to be. This time was different, as she decided to take a lesson from Big Boy.  Here she was outside, with her keys inside, again......and then she remembered how he liked to leap up onto the bird bath. Click click went the brain, and up on the bird bath she went and in the window. The keys were retrieved! Success, all because, she got an idea from her feline companion. 

A Special Window Seat Khrista Made For Big Boy To Rest In The Sun

Big Boy loved the window with it's companion the sun, but he evidently loved the moon also. Here he is discovered in the night resting by the light of the moon with a small night light. When we dare to love deeply, special memories come back one at a time. What a special memory of a special feline. 

I leave you with this mental image of Khrista trying to get into bed. She has two large Labradors who take a big hunk out of the bed, and then there was Big Boy, who had a choice spot. Khrista, Khrista, where are you? Are you in the bed?
