How do I turn Steem into USD???
Can anyone tell me step by step how to convert STEEM into USD in my hand?
I don't know where to start or even the proper terms to use.
I am hoping to convert some of my earnings so I can purchase a new bicycle for my cross country trip from San Francisco to Washington DC next summer.
Here is a sample picture of the type bicycle I am trying to buy. This type bike is called a recumbent and the starting price of them is usually around $1200 and goes up to around $5000+... I am looking to spend around $1500-$2000 personally.
This is my current bike a Giant Canyon. I have about $2000 invested in it with all the accessories and such for cross country off road biking. This type bike however is not the greatest for road biking due to it being full suspension.
Any help from those who have successfully converted STEEM to USD would be greatly appreciated...

On current exchange rates your wallet is worth US$ 3,745.
That is made of :
(868 SP x US$ 4.17) + (19 SBD x US$ 6.56) = US$ 3620 + US$ 125
TOTAL = US$ 3745
However only the SBD portion of this (US$ 125) is available as liquid assets.
For the SteemPower you will need to start a PowerDown to convert the SteemPower into Steem which can then be sold.
The PowerDown takes place in equal parts over 13 weeks.
Whichever 'official' route you take via exchanges you will lost 10+% to fees and exchange rate differences.
The only alternative is to find someone willing to buy directly.
If you can find a direct buyer you should be able to get the losses down to 0-5% depending on whether the person is in same country as you or overseas.

Using blocktrades convert steem or SBD to litecoin and have that litecoin deposited in your coinbase wallet then sell the litecoin for USD and transfer the USD to your bank account or PayPal.
Not sure what the fees and everything would end up looking like but that's probably the simplest/safest way to do it IMO.

well that is a start. thanks. still need a few more directions to get me going though. im clueless about how all this works. currently my steemit account value says $4250 so i assume that means what i would get if i cashed everything out before exchange fees...
go to blocktrades (from steemit) and convert steem to ethereum or any other. you put there the address of your wallet from an exchange site. from there you withdraw

ok so i used your link and made a purchase of a $25 gift card for amazon. it sent me a confirmation to my email of completed transaction. my issue however is that i have no idea what i am susposed to do to get a code or something to actually spend it. all i got was a reciept of purchase for the card but no actual code or anything to use at checkout on amazon. can you help explain how i now use it or where my code is found etc...?
update: i just got a second email stating it is on its way. so i assume it will be mailed to me later. i really hope this works because i can buy my bike on amazon with this method.
