IS IT TIME YET?
(What’s The Right Time To Start Dating?)
📖TO THE BIBLE
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 5 NIV
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,”
LET’S TALK ▶
“I really like you, Nicole. Would you like to go out with me sometime?” Mark asked earnestly. Nicole replied that she would think about it and give him a response soon enough. Mark was the new kid on the block; he had just relocated to her city and started attending her school. She didn’t know much about him other than that he seemed quite nice and was really good to look at.
“Should I go on a date with Mark?” she thought, “He’s everything I like in a guy, but I’m not so sure it’s time for me to date.” Nicole had just turned fifteen. She prayed about it, and asked the Lord to help her with her decision. Later, she told Mark they should just be friends, and hold off dating till they were both done with their studies.
In truth, the right time for dating is when you become responsible. When your parents are still responsible for your education, feeding, clothing, shelter, and practically everything you do, you’re not ready to date. The idea of dating, really, is that you’re fixing certain times to meet someone in order to get to know them better. And you don’t do that just for the fun of it, but with a purpose. You’re hoping to get married to that person, considering everything is right.
Dating is something that should be done when you know the right direction to go. In the world, it’s done by trial-and-error; they try to find out who’s right for them by dating several people, but in Christ, things are different. We don’t try to find out who’s right for us by dating first; we know first and date afterwards. So, it means you’ve got to have the level of spiritual understanding, maturity, and guidance to make such a far-reaching decision. So wait until the time is right!
