The anomaly of Anne Frank - A collection of her moving words

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Yesterday, as I was exiting a Stop & Shop I noticed the friendly child seen above staring at me from the magazine shelf. Anne Frank was smiling in my direction from the cover of Time Magazine's special edition "Anne Frank's diary at 70." I've never read "Het Achterhuis" (better known as "The Diary of a Young Girl") but of course I've heard of Anne Frank's bravery and legend which will be passed on as an oral tradition forever.

However, it wasn't until I began reading some of her quotes scattered throughout the magazine that I realized why her writing had become the compass for humanity that it lives on to be. Her eloquent yet simple articulations of life as a young teenager are simply an anomaly to the human experience. Her grasp on humanity as well as life's mysteries and profundity is astonishing for someone her age. And her delivery of these sentiments is nothing short of perfect.

So this blog is to highlight some of Anne Frank's writing that I feel reflects the anomaly and pillar of humanity and hope that she is and forever will be. Below are a few of my favorite quotes of hers which all seem particularly powerful at different times in life. I encourage you to store them away for a time of need, as that time will come. Goodluck, friends and remember not to lose hope. Anne never did.

"It seems to me that later on neither I nor anyone else will be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year old school girl. Oh well, it doesn’t matter. I feel like writing."

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

"I must uphold my ideals, for perhaps the time will come when I shall be able to carry them out."

"Nature makes me feel humble and ready to face every blow with courage!"

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles."
