STEEMFAT: The eternal struggle - Drinking Beer vs Working out.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Don't forget that we are going to the Fenix Food Factory Saturday night, Bianca said today.

I sigh, do I really have to drink beer again with friends....

The Steemfat struggle is real.

Life is just too much fun.

I have been putting in some extra hours at the gym because I already know what's coming.

The last time I went there I was with my friends Ben ( @bennierex), Yves ( @eqko) and Fabio ( @fabrew).

I don't even remember how we got home.

The problem with that place is the beer is magical.

This is not just your average pint.

It's liquid Gold created by the gods themselves.

Barrel aged beer.

The eternal struggle - Drinking Beer vs Working out.

The only way to prevent said events is by not going. But were's the fun in that?

And this is the problem for anyone that enjoys the good life and wants to get in shape.

They don't always mix.

This story is just one of them.

I was talking to my dad about it last night.

He said, 'Mark, I got a belly around your age. I decided to just keep it and enjoy my food and drinks'.

An honorable decision I guess.

But one I'm not willing to take.

Steemfat should have ended in two weeks with a completely ripped yours truly.

I got very far, but to make it to the finish line I will have to eat a diet of only carrots and even I don't have that dedication.

I did learn though that it is possible to enjoy life like I do and stay in shape-ish. I am very proud of what I achieved.

After Steemfest 2 I'll just continue on this quest.

Rename it Steemfat: my journey to stay in shape-ish for steemfest 3 and keep going.

I like that idea already.

Ah yes, my friend, you raise the eternal question. In life we have the dilemma of two equally persuasive goals. Leon Festinger came up with the concept of Cognitive Dissonance years ago when he talked about two opposing forces pulling us in opposite directions.

We know that working out is good. Moderate and proper exercise is good for our health both mentally and physically. Not only do we know this intellectually (we've all read magazines and heard about it), but we know it viscerally when we feel those endorphins and dopamine juice kick in.

However, that tasty beer can be mighty persuasive. A nice glass of just the right beverage at just the right time can be tasty, relaxing, and many medical studies do in fact back up the health benefits of moderate amounts. Sharing it with good friends makes for a well-lived life.

Ah, there's the rub, as they say. So what's a struggling Steemian to do? I go back to that time-honored adage to embrace moderation. Yes, that is easy to say, and almost expected in a discussion like this. However, it has wisdom. A moderate amount of beer seriously can be healthy. I've studied a wee bit of the benefits of one of my favorites, Japanese sake and yes, there are many physical, medial benefits. Those wonderful people in Russia tell us about the benefits of vodka. Used in the right proportions, these and other alcoholic beverages can be beneficial to your health.

Again, moderation is a key.

I'll leave this with a quote from my fellow American, Mark Twain ,who wisely told us, "Moderation in all things --- including moderation!"

Be well my friend. Thank you for sharing this!

I like that eat carrots.
you always put something that capture my attention and a good sense of humour.
I drink beer but it becomes a lifestyle. Taste wise, don't know what to say.
Get ready to steemfast.
Keep on steemit.

@exyle I know this may not matter to you right now but I have not drank any alcohol since 10/21/1990. This week is my Sobriety Birthday and if I don't drink any alcohol for the next 2 days I will be 27 years FREE. I feel very good about this. Do what you need to do and ENJOY your LIFE and STEEM ON !

Wow! That's an amazing achievement. Man, congratulations! And you are so right. Enjoy life!

When you are 87 years old, forgetting your wifes name, and sitting in front of the window all day behind the flowers, and all of a sudden you buddies from back in the days walk in. You guys laugh together, and bring back old memories, laugh some more, and decide to have a beer to cheer and celebrate those good ol' memories from the past.
Those memories never include gymming, seriously :)

Those memories never include gymming, seriously :)

lol. That's hard to deny!

Barrel Aged Imperial Stout ... from draft ! There's just no saying no to that. Also I have also learned (read accepted) that me working out will never make me ripped. But it will allow me to enjoy the finer things in life without growing kingsize. And I do believe that's most important.

You are so right!

In shape-ish! I call myself the most in shape out of shape man in the world!
One of Canada's most famous beers is Molson. There we call a beer belly a Molson Muscle!

Very funny @exyle!

I call myself the most in shape out of shape man in the world!

LOL!

The alcohol in beer is also broken down in the body by the liver. Drinking beer and taking metformin might cause serious side effects. The alcohol in beer can interact with Flagyl. This can lead to upset stomach, vomiting, sweating, headache, and an increased heartbeat. And also you might get a heart attack :( So please quit drinking beers please :) It for your own good :) stay blessed @exyle

It's great that you decided to continue your journey, it's easy to get relaxed and lose your motivation. I hope you come from steemfest and hit the gym with a passion :)

Beer used to be pretty easy to pass on, but these days everyone seems to have great microbrews on tap. Only way to avoid drinking it is to stay home...no never mind great beer in the fridge too. Enjoy life, we only get to live it once!!

nice post my friend, well i can't appreciate you for drinking beer because my religious understanding is different, but i really like your workout routines and wow you are looking awesome in that shot, i think you are working out on your wings and chest, you are also taking a good decision to just increase your workout time so that you 100% prepare for the steemfest2, wish you a best of luck my friend for the upcoming steemfest2, Stay happy and blessed and have a fantastic weekend ahead.
