There are so many opportunities lying around for the Steem blockchain it blows my mind at times. And most of them have not much to do with blogging anymore.
I fully believe at some point the Steem blockchain will transform from a blogging platform to a social economic platform.
Today I am strengthened in my belief when I ordered a mug from Steemporium.
I heard about Steemporium from my buddy @eqko who designed the logo for the website.

A crypto currency only has value when enough people believe that it has value.
Recently I made my own first business deal on the blockchain when I paid @twistychips to design a logo for me. I paid him with STEEM BACKED DOLLARS (or SBD’s).
@twistychips must have believed SBD’s represented a certain value, otherwise, he would never have accepted them for his work and time.
Now, this all might not sound that amazing but it truly is.
The SBD's that I earned from blogging came out of nowhere. They were created according to a set of rules programmed in the STEEM blockchain, yet they represent value. And remember there is no third party involved here (No banks, no government, no FED. Also, nobody can print more SBD's.)
In the past users would change these SBD's into Bitcoin. Not believing in the value of the currency.
But this will change rapidly once SBD's are able to buy real goods and services. This is what I believe is the future of the STEEM blockchain.
A closed economic system
I paid $33 SBD for my mug and shipment to the Netherlands.
Offering goods and services on the Steem blockchain I see as the new way to earn SBD's/STEEM in the future.
The ones that realize this the first will benefit the most from this. (as with all things).
With SBD's it is possible to do direct business with anyone all over the world without a third party. That's what I did when I ordered my logo and that's what I did buying a mug from Steemporium today.
Not a single third party was involved. Just the buyer and seller. And we found each other on the STEEM blockchain because of the social aspect. Another huge plus to the Steem blockchain.

It boggles my mind how no one has yet created a simple marketplace UI, where you can log in with your steem credentials and buy/sell anything without the outrageous ebay charges.
The escrow functionality has been here for months.

No offence to anyone but I see people building tons of useless apps on steem that adds very little value. Why not build something that will send steem to the moon instead?
The reason steem is still so undervalued is that people still view it as a cash cow, when they realize the money won't actually exit the system, investors will pour money into it.

Wow, thanks for letting me know about Steemporium, I hadn't heard of it. There seems to be more and more being built on the Steem block chain it's hard to keep up, and that is really amazing. While I think Dtube and Zappl are incredible and bring a ton of value to the platform, I believe you are dead on in the fact that the organic growth of Steemit turning into a social economic platform is where the real growth of the Steem block chain is lies.
My vision for the Steem block chain is a complete social ecosystem comprised of a vast social media delivery and consumption system of blogging, communities, video, micro blogging and every day economic marketplace where Steem is used for everyday goods and services. Could you see an Amazon or Ebay like marketplace being built on the Steem block chain where all transactions are conducted in Steem? I absolutely can. Now I'm beginning to see the very broad scope of just what the Steem block chain can become. Reaching all levels of every day economic usefulness. It's quite humbling to think about and leaves me in awe. It truly can change the world as we know it. From every day transactions, social media, banking, there's really no end in sight to what problems it can solve. With the right leadership, innovation and boldness, the Steem block chain could quite possibly become one of the most valuable platforms the world has ever seen. Very exciting and quite liberating at the same time.
I don't know how exponential steem price will rise next year (2x, 4x, 10x ?) All I can say is that it will. -- Proof is becoming apparent now after I wrote my latest post about 2018 and steem.
...but you're another prime example. The things you're doing, and what you're talking about is a great example. There are ways to monetize the value of steem instead of just converting to Bitcoin and selling.
Since our userbase is maturing and trusting the system, parting with your hard earned steem isn't quite as easy as it was anymore.. especially if you put in the effort to obtain it.
I fully agree that new products and services are coming... and first to market advantage is going to be huge for those that jump two feet into STEEM and SBD.

Steemporium sounds like an absolutely amazing idea. Hopefully as snowflake suggested we actually get a steemit marketplace where we will be able to buy and sell items.
I'm pretty sure it will happen in the future but I guess we need to find more people who are willing to trust the steem blockchain and sell their services here but that will inherently come when steemit is pushed into the public eye.
The best thing to do is start now and has this in steemit system where people are able to list and sell certain items. However I don't know how we will be able to prevent scammers and will it have to be the community that has to 'flag' accounts like we do with comments.
The steemporium logo is so cool. Hats off to @eqko for making an absolutely amazing design. I love all the little cog switches particle effects and all the other things that are going on at the same time.
I think I'll be sure to buy some stuff from steemporium sooner or later. I really like the look of the Chef Boy R Steem Mug but it is a little too expensive for me. Hopefully there will be more sellers with competitive price points.
I agree that the first people that pick this up will benefit from it the most. If you decide to sell items for steem your profits will most likely increase as time goes on rather than fiat which keeps depreciating in value.
I can't wait to see the mug @exyle. Definitely going to be a great exchange of the current mug as you will taking sips of steemit glory with the new one haha

I'd like to add that we are shipping from the U.S.
The base price of $25 for the mug includes the shipping cost, so realistically $18 isn't a terrible price for a mug designed by a steemit artist.
Sadly, international shipping rates can be costly, we've really done our best to be fair on prices while still providing a decent profit for the artists.
I'm wondering how long it will take to arrive.
I came here with multiple streams of small income going on multiple sites for my content creation since 2010. I get books sales, coaching income, affiliate sales, and commissions. All are increased in 9 weeks on steemit.
I came here for the Alexa ranking since I do write, video, photo, and teach, and have 3500 pieces of content out there already. I thought I would use this
place for promotion. Ha! I was so happy to see money flow right away. Not a lot - but none of my streams are a lot!
Steem has come on fast, will soon lead, and is driving increases everywhere else through my posting here. I have one affiliate site that used to have 6-10 merchants on my "visits" reports. Boom! Now it has 20+! I get pay-per-click on this stuff!
Another affiliate got so many visits from my links all of the sudden that they contacted me to find out why. I told them to start accepting crypto and I can get more people over there!
I will be offering my social media coaching on steemgigs soon and I am over the moon with that idea.

I actually believe that developments like these are what is going to make the Steem price go higher over time. Most people just cash out the sbd for BTC than cash or use it to power up Steem. However, as the number of businesses and users that accept it as form of payment increases, it can only serve as another positive factor for buying more Steem.
Amazing mug looks so beautiful and yes Steem/SBD really empowering peoples now we are able to buy online with the help of SBD and by doing this we completely remove middle man possibilities and that's awesome, i think the way steemit is growing i am sure Steem/SBD becomes more and more popular in upcoming months. thanks for sharing
Okie, I am ready to sell everything I own for SBD or Steem......That is a really nice site, even though the prices seem high to me it is nice to see Steem as an international currency. BTC can be treated as such but it's usually given a conversion, like 45USD paid as 0.01BTC. It's still marketed as 45 bucks not BTC or Satoshis....I like the concept, guess it helps SBD is roughly equal to USD, unless the infrastructure is failing.
Agreed, it's still nice to see the conversion, at least for the next few years while we are still a fiat based society.
I am in the USA. We are, as usual, years behind the rest of the world in using tech that is mostly created here and our empire will probably fall with fiat currency. The USD has been the de facto reserve currency since WW2. It is now backed by nothing but debt and we export it to others to control the inflation. It is illegal to use gold of silver to even buy anything here. It is ironic that our government has not outlawed cryptocurrency but the "Media" slant on it makes it pretty much unknown to the general public.
Wasn't aware it was illegal to use gold and silver for payment - I mean I know it's not exactly commonplace, but didn't know it was technically outlawed.
I can't say I totally agree the general public, at least many folks, are aware of bitcoin with the incredible growth its experienced. As far as their perception of it...well that's a whole different story altogether.

Yes you are absolutely correct! This is what I feel too! And it seems like day by day STEM is powering up! Sometimes, this might be the next BTC! Who knows? But i can assure STEEM has long journey and SBD is a great concept as well!
