Hello steemians, welcome to my blog. Today, I will be talking about parenthood and curses.

A colleague and I had a discussion about parents and the sacrifices they go through in order to cater for their children's needs and she made a statement; " Parents should not act like they are doing the child(ren)a favour, after all they did not ask to be born".
I did not agree with the statement she made so I told her my opinion.

Parents spend their time, money, energy and resources to train kid(s).The money put in to care for a child needs, pay the medical bills and
educational fees would add up to great amounts to start up a business.

Sometimes, they deny themselves of certain needs in order to cater for their children. They have to balance work, stress, manage the home and their kids.

My colleague argued against my points. She was of the view that kids or no kids. There will always be expenses and bills to settle. Even the cost of maintaining certain gadgets and properties would amount to large amounts of money.

I told her that when she have kids that we can this discussion again. Lol.

Curses
I observed that in some cultures, parents tend to curse their children when scolding them. This is a wrong way of training kids.

Cursing your kids will not solve the situation. It will only make it worse. Children can be demanding and annoying at times but cursing them is not the way to instill discipline in them.

Think about it, if you curse them and they encounter misfortunes as they get older. You will be affected in the long run. If they succeed in life, you will benefit from it.

It's better to say positive words to them especially at those moments they get you really pissed.

Remember, there will be good and tough times with kids. Enjoy the parenting experience. Lol! Cheers to all the wonderful parents out there.

Hmmm. I respect her opinion, and agree that they didn't ask to be born. But in the same sense I do feel like, everything we are able to provide our children while they're with us, is basically "catering to their needs". We have to be the responsible ones who get and give them the most stable environment and resources til they're old enough to do it themselves. Even then sometimes help will need to be given. Yes, gadgets and stuff cost money as well but they don't necessarily demand our attention 24/7 like children..
Love this post btw! And we love positivity!

Thanks so much for your contribution. I agree that children demand a lot of attention and care.

Parents are really wonderful.

This is a tough one and need a great deal of thought.
I disagree with your friend, parents deserve everything from their child. Of course it could be said that the kid didn't force them or something but since they took responsibility they deserve the accolades.

Cursing is bad. Be it from parents or anyone, it's a bad thing generally. That's it.

Thanks for this great post. Kudos!!

Thanks for your brilliant contribution.

The debate is really a dicey one. I see her view point this way: "have kids you can cater for. It will reduce stress and financial burden to an extent."

Sometimes, I feel there should be a parenting course for some tribes in Nigeria. On how to stop cursing their kids.

Thanks for stopping by.

Well, that's true. Lots of children is the issue here.

Parenting course! 😂😂 I think there is already, people don't yield though. Stop cursing is a song people have sang in songs, acted in drama and all. Still no difference.

We just need a transformation, the new generation needs to seek caution that's all

Haha, when I started reading what your colleague was saying, I was thinking, I bet she doesnt have children! I was right!

I believe children are a blessing, and we have been entrusted with their wellbeing. With this in mind, OF COURSE we have to cater to their needs! This does not mean we should spoil them, but it is our job to make sure they are healthy and learn how to be a good and responsible person.

I agree, scolding and negative reinforcement are really not the way to go in most situations. Yes, sometimes if a child does something like hit another child, they need to be stopped immediately and told that this is wrong and why.
Most of the time, they learn best by modeling their parents behavior and by being praised for doing the right thing.

Thanks for your wonderful contribution.
Yeah,I told her that when she does have kids we can have this conversation again.

Sometimes,we have to be in a particular situation to understand how it is.

I love your positive parenting, @esttyb! Thank you for sharing this with us. Even if our children did not ask to be born, I think above us creating and birthing them, God has birthed them in His mind and thoughts since the beginning of time :) So, I will take the train of thought that God pre-assess us to be each of their parent with much consideration because He always has their best interests at heart!!

Thanks for your wonderful contribution. Parenting can be challenging at times but there are special moments which are priceless.

Thanks for stopping by.

Parenting definitely feels like a thankless job for a long while, but if we instill gratitude in our children, then they can understand the joy of giving back to their parents. They're kind of like a investment in that their care will come back around, but also that they will take care of this world so cursing then definitely wouldn't serve much benefit. LOL! Of course, raising a child to understand limits and boundaries with compassion is challenging, especially in the heat of the moment. I know I have my "yelling" days where my voice can get to them faster than I do, but being mindful of how we speak is so important. Lovely post. -Aimee
