THE PLACE OF VALUES SYSTEM IN OUR SOCIETY

On board a taxi from one part of the city to another, I met a young lady with her little daughter (of about four). The little kid just finished eating biscuits and was about to dispose of the packs through the window, "you can't do that honey, the policemen are just in front of you and you will get arrested if you do so" said the mother. "Okay mum, I'll do that after we've passed the police post" said the little kid. I gave it a minute thought and could not keep quiet. Madam, why not tell her not to dispose of it on the road because it is wrong and will litter the environment? I reacted. "Okay, thank you Sir" replied the mother.
We have all been deceived by our parents at one time or the other as kids to act with the conciousness of the consequences instead of the values attached to such actions. I look forward to seeing a generation raised responsibly without fear of negligence but with the joy in upholding standards and values (especially in Africa). A generation of young people that values time, people(irrespective of race or colour or ethnic background, resources, etc). It begins with you.
