Warning! Time is a killer!

Warning! Time is a killer.

Yesterday I had lunch with a 70 years young lady. I asked her about time passing faster every year, and she said: "It's true. I thought I was gonna blink and be 40. Instead I blinked and I was 70."

I'm still pretty young and already very aware of this phenomenon. The past 3 years have felt like 6 months. If the development continues, the next 40 years will feel like 7 years - or most likely - even faster!

It's a terrifying thought, and I'm not sure what to do about it. But I have given it a lot of thought, and I think that there must be ways to "make time pass slower".

When I was a kid, 15 minutes felt like forever. Why? One theory is that everything is new so you're more present with what happens and experiencing it though fresh eyes, instead of when you're older and experiencing events through the already programmed filters of your mind.

One way to counteract that would be to experience new things every day. Like when you're on vacation and everything is new and exciting. The day somehow goes by slower when you have many experiences.

Another way is perhaps by being present with what is. This is one of spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle's main teachings; that time is an illusion, and if you are completely present with what is, and not in your mind, somewhere else, time disappears. Eckhart Tolle suggests: "Pouring a glass of water in a state of alert presence..." Let me know if you guys can do that! ;0

What are your thoughts? Do you also feel that time goes faster every year? Will you be counteracting it by seeking out new experiences or by meditating - or both?

Some years seem to fly by, whereas others seem to pass slowly. In retrospect, however, it all seems to become one big blur.

Would you suggest doing anything differently?

Yes. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired, and live while you're alive :-)

Sadly it seems that once school is over an the real world begins the routine of eat, sleep, work gets in the way of everything that makes life worth living. Almost unconsciously, most of us (myself included) blink out eyes to see another month, another season, another year has passed us by :'(

I know. It's so sad. But I really think that we can fight it with these tools. I'm gonna try anyways... The only problem is; how do you think of something new to do every day?

Its difficult, especially when trying to think slows the entire process. The easy answer is to Be and Do, but at I quickly forget how important that is when focused on the day to day make money bill pay

Everything is in our heads and everything is based on our state of mind.
when we are excited and happy ready to concur the word we are present and in the here and now , but guess what happens when we are down blue and depressed - we barely move or speak and the results are totally opposite which probably make time pass differently.

true story - i went to a lot of vacations but can point out one time i joined to a group of people i did not connect well, felt like time got frozen and passed soooo slowly.
other times (luckily most of them) i had great connection with different groups of people or even with my girl, great time with people bond people, creates greater relationships and time passes quickly -its not a cliche!
