school stress and real life

in #life7 years ago

Back when I was in secondary school (many of you will know it as high school),my view of university life and the real world was a fantasy filled one, I imagined acing all my courses ,graduating with a sweet cgpa and working for a big company "earning" a salary and climbing the ranks (basically working for someone through out my life),but when I entered into the university and made friends, became wiser and better, meanwhile just barely passing my courses , partly due to the fact that we are taught in crammed little lecture halls, by lecturers who care less how they teach you and again due to the fact that I lost interest in things that are non practical in nature. Imagine if you would, a 19 years old having no feasible plans for the future ,relying only on the certificate that he hope to get after jumping through the hurdles of university education, still taking pocket money from his/her parents , most of them without plans of being self reliant in future, that's the Nigerian situation, that's how the Nigerian educational system works, it doesn't favour being self reliant and being a student too, but as long as there are still some thinkers amongst us that think outside the box and may even quit school after some time to build up themselves, there is still hope for the Nigerian situation
Due to harsh teaching conditions such as this ,it is little wonder that the rate of suicide by Nigerian university students is as low as it is, sometimes it appeals to me as the means of escape but the truth remains that suicide will not solve the Nigerian situation but what we need is reformation and restructuring in a way so as to accommodate the needs of every student and to include practical work to encourage people to think outside the box, that is just what we need

This isn't just Nigeria, it's also often the United States, and probably many developed countries. The fact is, a "good job" is no longer the practical solution to life.

Work hard, earn more, spend more, die poor ... This has become the mantra of our decaying societies.

Instead of working to earn a living, let your living work for you. Find a passion, not just an interest but a PASSION, something you can pour your heart, mind, and soul into. Then do it! Pour your heart, mind, and soul into your passion! Talk about it on Steem, engage others, invest in yourself and GROW! Take every bit of education and pour it into your passion. Let living work for you instead of working for a living.
